Patch for MINERVA: Metastasis. Fixes Problems caused by May-2010 STEAM /Engine update. Q: Do I need to patch? Telltale signs... Black waves, sky looks funky. Crashing, locking up (Video frozen, sound looping) after you've blown the door in pic...and you try to pass thru the doorway.
2010-11-07
EDIT: There is a NEW IMPROVED version of the patch out, check the news for download links!...
New version has all the files, extract (7zip) overwriting your game folder and or run exe to run installer and you're "patched". No need to edit game files manually as noted below.
************************************
Reason for patch:
May-26-2010 Valve pushed a update to anyone that connected to the net via Steam anytime on, or after that date. If you had Auto-update turned ON, or manually allowed a update the old (working) engine /game files were overwritten. The "update" totally rewrote the engine which broke alot of mods which do not reference the SDK, but instead the game itself.
Q: Do I need to patch?
Telltale signs...
Black waves, sky looks funky.
Crashing, locking up (Video frozen, sound looping) after you've blown the door in pic...and you try to pass thru the doorway.
Requirements:
GCFScape (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26)
Source SDK Base 2006 (Install it from steam if you haven't already)
Half life 2: Episode 1 (Or a friend that can upload his episode 1 shared.gcf file)
Part 1: Extract Episode One's content
1. Exit Steam
2. Extract the episodic folder from the "episode 1 shared.gcf" to the desktop (or elsewhere) using GCFScape.
3. Drag and drop everything inside the episodic folder into the "Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\metastasis" folder, overwriting everything.
4. The remaining empty episodic folder can be deleted.
Part 2: Apply the patch
5. Extract the "Minerva Fix v4.zip" to somewhere (e.g. desktop).
6. Copy the metastasis sub-folder from the zip file and paste it into "Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods", overwriting everything..

Admins,
This patch that addresses problem caused by the May-26-2010 engine update to the Half-Life 2 engine is for MINERVA: Metastasis, a mod for Half-life 2.
During the upload process there was NO listing for MINERVA: Metastasis- so it is currently linked to Half-Life 2. Please edit as need to link to Moddb.com
Thank you.

Nice patch too. But for the "episodic" folder, we cannot remove some useless thing without crashing the mod?
RE: Part 1: Extract Episode One's content
4. The remaining empty episodic folder can be deleted.
I used GCFScape to extract the contents DIRECTLY to the metastasis folder. I think step #4 is referring to extracting the contents to a TEMPORARY folder, that after doing a cut and paste of the files over to the metastasis folder you can delete the empty folder.
PS: When posting please mention how OLD your HL install is (Pre- or Post May-26-2010, Orange box? or what...
On Pre-May-2010 installs (IIRC) you copy over a different *gcf file than POST-May-26-2010 installs.

The mod work with only HL2 : ep2 ? (without ep1 or HL2)
I'd like to know that, too. I only have ep2
From what I've read Episode content is needed.
From the readme:
Part 1: Extract Episode One's content
.
Would anyone mind explaining how to do this to someone who is completely computer 'tarded? I'm so confused right now. I don't even know how to get that "Source SDK" thing, or where to find episode 1 shared.gcf.
Many thanks to any who answer.
RE: I don't even know how to get that "Source SDK" thing, or where to find episode 1 shared.gcf.
To install Source SDK, Open STEAM, look for TOOLS, install Source SDK 2006, restart STEAM.
Source SDK= (Software Developer Kit)
En.wikipedia.org
Source.valvesoftware.com
The Source SDK is available free of charge via Steam with purchase of a Source-based game, such as Half-Life 2 or Team Fortress 2.

RE: Where to find episode 1 shared.gcf
Close/exit STEAM.
Navigate to where you STEAM install is Example C:\Games\Steamsteamapps
*gcf's should be in Steamapps folder. Use GCFScape to extract contents to metastasis" folder, overwriting everything.
Apply patch.
Thank you, kind sir. Just got it working.
I tried to download the gcfscape tool from the link but I only got a page error. I then googled the tool and went to its website, and I still got an error. Is there another way too get gcf?
Did you install .net?
From the site:
"Runtimes: (Required)
.NET Framework - GCFScape is written in C++ .NET (using Visual C++ 2008 SP1) and as such requires the .NET Framework 2.0 (or greater) and the Visual C++ 2008 SP1 runtime to run."
Oh gawd, this is too troublesome... why does Valve keep messing up people's Mods?
