Capella happened. Not only did the GTVA lose an entire system, most of the 3rd Fleet, but there are innumerable Capellan refugees left homeless by the cataclysm. The GTVA General Assembly hurriedly passed an act to facilitate sheltering the refugees in far-away systems, including Luyten. At first, the Luytenian Government, presided by the controversial Chancellor McCleskey, saw great potential in the new arrivals. They hoped that the influx of able-bodied workforce would help fix the declining regional economy.

However, the demographic shift turned out to be unfavorable. Within months, Luyten suffered its deepest economic crisis in its history. The populace blamed the Capellans and the ever-unpopular McCleskey government for the recession. The GTVA General Assembly would be willing to interfere with the McCleskey government's internal affairs, but the Beta Aquilae Convention grants them with no such power. Before BETAC could have been accordingly amended, McCleskey resigned and a new election was scheduled to take place. The new Chancellor is Edward Keyes, who is determined to "purify" Luyten of its unwelcome guests and to enact unorthodox economic policies to cure the recession. Emboldened by sweeping popular support, the Chancellor announced that Luyten no longer recognized the GTVA's jurisdiction.

When it appeared that the crisis could be solved through diplomacy, three high-ranking GTVA dignitaries were abducted and stoned to death in daylight by an angry mob of anti-Alliance protesters. Peter Lindres, Special Operations Command, submitted a report the next day, showing indisputable evidence that Chancellor Keyes knew about the abduction, but let it happen. To make matters worse, intelligence reports that news of the diplomats' deaths was welcomed by extremist underground movements in Laramis and Barnard's Star as well.

Fearing that prior events would trigger a domino effect, the GTVA Security Council assembled and voted in favor of a forceful military intervention to Luyten. Their goal: get rid of Keyes and his closest associates.

The Luyten Civil War will be a pure military campaign. You will take control over jump nodes, attack capital ships, steal enemy tech, and raid cargo depots. A wide variety of ships and weapons will be available for most missions. You can choose to take a fighter to escort your bomber wings, or take a bomber yourself to help them with your firepower. Whichever role you choose, the mission will be balanced for both roles.

Be prepared, pilot. Your hull is failing, your weapons are depleting, and time is running out.

A FreeSpace 2 campaign

Here it is, folks. As announced, I managed to deliver this campaign in June.

Story

Before BETAC could have been accordingly amended, the ruling government suffered a devastating defeat in the elections.

Be prepared, pilot. Your hull is failing, your weapons are depleting, and time is running out.

Great Game, story lacking a little in emersion but ya kind of said it would. Awesome mission design, varied and creative. Liked the way the music was applied. Enjoyable and recommendable. I Agree with Elite222 in a 9.5/10

Heyya,

i am doing a playthrough on Insane difficulty for YouTube currently. And i encountered some missions, i was unable to perform all objectives, even i try totally different strategies i learned in years of multiplayer and playing on Insane ;).
Is it even possible to perform all Objectives on Insane or it is intended, that you can not do everything without cheats or a very low difficulty setting in this campaign?

I am asking, because i have no idea how to protect both transports in Bailed Out, even in Bomber role, i can not take out the Beam of the Kagera before it take down the first transport.
Another situation is the Nebula mission, because its very hard to catch the GTCv Iberia alone, but i do not have a clue how to protect the Millenium against the Jackal also.

The bonus objective in Encounter is also a science for itself ;) In one of my tries i was able to destroy the Liepzig, but do not have enough time to destroy the Bombers afterwards ^^.

And Deception, Friend or Foe... my wingmates are dying too fast in the Kagera stage, so i can not protect the Leviathan cruiser, because i have to handle whole wings of perseus and medusas all by myself, too hard on Insane :(.

But i like the mod so far (i am at the mission "An Oath upheld", so nearly through), very unique mission design and nice ideas in case of the Bomber/Fighter Role differences. But i do not like most of the music *g*

I don't know if I mentioned it anywhere, but I haven't tested the mod on Insane, because that's well above my skill level. I suggest going with Hard.

Here are your specific issues addressed (spoilers ahead)

Your post suggests you're aiming for perfection. Note that for plot and pacing reasons not all missions are supposed to be GTVA victories.

The Kagera is supposed to take down the transports except Kemmler's. The best outcome of the mission is to defend everything until the Kagera arrives. From that point, you get no penalties whatsoever for losing the expendable transports. The plot doesn't require them.

What bonus objective in Encounter? There's just a secondary objective, in which you have to destroy the hangars. I rarely chose to complete that objective, let alone try it on Insane.

You are not supposed to defend the Millennium from both corvettes. The best outcome is to deal lots of damage to the Iberia, and defend the Millennium until the Jackal arrives. From that point, just disengage and wait for the mission to play out. The survival or the destruction of the Millennium is irrelevant for the rest of the campaign.

Deception, Friend, and Foe is surely beatable on Hard. Probably not on Insane, seeing that a vet multi player cannot beat it.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the answers,

Sure i am interested how the missions are planned and how it is supposed to beat them with the best possible outcome ;-). And yes, i know that many missions are be supposed to lose :)

I am only asking, because there are debriefing stages in the cases i talk about. There is a debriefing stage for the case, all three transports in Bailed Out survive, and also for the case, that the Iberia aswell the Jackal falls against the Millenium and the Bomber wings. And there is even an arrival cue for a third enemy capital ship, GTC Qatar, in this mission. I want to know, if these are only remnants of older versions of the missions or have you a special strategy in mind the player have to use to reach these objectives? Or are these simple a bonus goal only for people who use ~+I etc., because you mention Hints for cheat using in the release thread on HLP especially. ;-)

And Encounter has a doable Bonus Objective at least on lower difficult settings because you have more time. The destruction of Liepzig Station.
Even this makes no sense, because the station reappear and will be destroyed later again :D.

For Deception, Friend and Foe, than this seems to be a problem on Insane or i am using a wrong strategy perhaps, because i am losing my wingmates too fast against the flak guns and Kagera's Perseus and i can not protect the Leviathan cruiser, because a whole wing of perseus is after me and a complete medusa wing is targeting the cruiser undisturbed :/. So i was able to bring the Kagera down only with the Aeolus and Washington left so far, but maybe i have try harder here.

Ah sorry due to Encounter. The destruction of Liepzig station is not a Bonus objective. But is also an own debriefing stage in this mission. I think i missed that. And this is doable on a lower difficult setting i think. :-)

Certainly there are debriefing stages for all sorts of outcomes. However, these are more like mission design decisions than realistic outcomes. I am aware that there are a lot better pilots than me out there, so I tried to cover as many outcomes as I could think of, including those that are not realistically achievable with my skills. I don't remember beating Hunt and the Hunted so bad that the Qatar had to arrive (discouting targeted test runs when I used cheats).

Ah i understand :)
Thank you for the answers, that is clarify some things :).
I was only unsure about them, because it seems possible that you had a strategy in mind how to play this mission :) Besides i do not find any hint that these are maybe remnants of an older version due to the fact there are any deactivated cues, or deactivated events like in other mods and missions. I was simple not sure about it. But now, i know more :)

Thank you for the information :).

One note, one question.

Note: I uploaded the full release to ModDB. It cannot hurt to have one more mirror.

Question: I've had a pretty high number of visitors yesterday and today's figures are equally great. This is surprising given that the mod released on the 15th and its ModDB newsletter was authorized on the 17th. I would have expected the highest number of visitors on either of these days, not 5 and 6 days after release. Has somebody started advertising the campaign? Please reveal yourself so I can give you a big hug. :D
