The goal of this mod is to bring back the units from the original Homeworld into the Homeworld 2 engine, with high quality texture and polycount detail.
The campaign and animatics from the original game will also be included.
One of my main doubts is the bridge, should i just add more detail like i'm doing, or should i remake it like the concepts, maybe that's going to far...
It wouldn't be the HW1 mothership anymore if you remade the bridge based on the concept art. That's beyond the boundaries of a modest stylisation, that's replacing the existing element for something completelly different and alien.
The way I see it is this:
The player has to look at the ship and recognize it, it simply has to be compatible with his memory, that's basically all there is to it.
And there are changes belonging into two categories. Those that he'd be able to recognize only after a side-by side comparison and those that are plainly obvious at a first sight. Slightly altering a general shape so the ship look a bit more sleek? No problem. Replacing a bridge for another one that clearly wasn't there? Too much.
Really, it's all about if it matches with the player's old memory. The memory is a tricky and mostly a blurry thing, you can get away with probably more than you think. But you have to pick the things that are outside of the spotlight. Let's say you want to add a bridge texture to the Taiidan Missile Destroyer, the Skaal Fa. No one pretty much remembers that it doesn't have one, so why not. The Mothership on the other hand is an iconic ship, the bridge is almost the first thing you see in the cutscene, that thing is burned well into our memory. You can't get into the spotlight much more that that, so I strongly advice not to change it. And I encourage you to add as many details the way you're doing as you want. Because that's how I remember it, ragged and detailed.
you need to look at the cutscene with the mothership moving past come wrecks its what they where going for orginially but due to low ploys could not do it.
Nice!
Better or worse??
Of course there are a lot of small details that don't appear, this is just for preview of the main shape.
I think it's overall better, although the top circular brown section seems to be a little mis-mapped?
Besides the distorted textures (A simple UV map fix), this one looks better.
Now it would be even more awesome if it were a new model made from scratch based on the original concept. :P
Good work.
look ´s nice Jkberna , the part by the antenna a little rounder !!!!
modell is nice and textures
greeting Baron
I like it. I clearly is a slight stylisation, but I don't mind at all, it does look sleek.

i see what you mean... keep the main and add details.
