Our representation of Halo's iconic space combat in the Homeworld 2 engine, which puts the player in command of some of the most powerful weapons fielded by the UNSC and Covenant and to provide a balanced and competitive experience.

Report RSS Years come and go

After a year of work HHF has come a long way. We take this opportunity to retell our story.

Posted by on

But first, let's show you the normal update stuff.

We kick it off with, what's for now, our last planned UNSC ship to be modeled. The UNSC Supercarrier is one of the most powerful ships in the fleet, not only for it's combat purposes, but for it's mixed utility purposes too.

Like the cradle, it's able to dock other larger UNSC vessels on it's surfaces in order to carry out repairs, it also features a unique engine design which allows UNSC ships up to the size of the Hercules class to dock inside of it's birth.

On the other end of modeling, we now have our third Covenant ship. Suprisingly, not from Tzarro though.

Recently Velo has learnt how to spline model, meaning the modeling of Covenant ships is going to be far quicker now with two modelers working on them. The first ship Velo's done is the Assault carrier, the standard Covenant flagship, and so far the largest "seen" Covenant fighting vessel in the games, at a giant 5000 metres in length, and hangars large enough to easily fit entire UNSC frigates inside.

And we have the second of our promised scale charts, to demonstrate the sheer gargantuan size of these two ships.

So, look forward to move Covenant goodies from us now, and possibly some textures from krazy. ^^

Speaking of krazy, he's become very talented with his Wacom tablet, and quickly did this rather abstract piece of art for us

I was meant to mention THE BRAND NEW BLS WIKI! but i forgot. So here it is. Rather anti climaticly. Brokenline.wikia.com

Looking back at HHF's humble beginings, the art side of things has considerably developed. We've managed to recruit multiple talented people as modelers, concept artists and it seems the majority of the BLS team has an affinity for digital art.

These humble beginnings were less than promising though. HHF came about after Velo and UNSC, past team member, were discussing Halowars over MSN, particularly picking holes in the various arguments about it implimenting space combat. We said a dual aspect game like that wouldn't live up to a pure game such as Homeworld 2, when we both suddenly got the idea to start a Halo space mod on the Homeworld 2 engine.

So here we were, two guys with no real modding experiance, convinced we were going to create an entire total conversion that did justice to the Haloverse. I (Velo) quickly decided to take up the modeling side of things, while UNSC was confident he would be abel to code, we roped in Ninjatheory from the Halowars forums and after creating my first model, we also got Krazy as a texturer.

We found out UNSC was actually useless at coding, and at some point NT managed to recruit Beta to replace him (Though oddly, we never actually officially kicked UNSC off the team. He just sorta drifted away.)

Our next step was to figure out just what the hell to do. For this we contacted the Halo First Offensive team with offers of some form of partner ship, comparable to an apprentiship. We quickly developed our own legs as we got more confident in our skills, I went from extruding boxes randomly in hope the end design would resemble a ship and actually began to come out with some good stuff, NT developed a style in his updates and beta began getting our ships in game. At around the same time we ran a contest at Halowars forums for the public to enter their own drawings as concept art for HHF, the winner would get their ship modeled (Of which, still hasn't happened) and possibly get a place as an official artist. Here is where we discovered Ringleader, who far surpassed our hopes.

The pace quickened as ship models and concept art was pumped out on a regular and fast basis, during this time, we also developed a reputation for being forum nomads, and to this day have gone through a total of 5 forums before arriving at our latest one. Who knows how high OJ's post count might have been if he hadn't lost them a whole 5 times? Scary stuff.

Progress slowed down after christmas, the initial excitement from the team that they were actually developing a mod disapearing and some members developing a sense of laze in their work (If it weren't for that, i wouldn't be the one writing this. -_-.) It appeared the excitement in the community had also dulled somewhat. Topics on the forums had all been covered and it was apparent the community increasingly relied on people like Overlord jebus to keep sections alive, we also found that Jebus had been using this ability on a variety of forums other than BLS too, unofficially advertising HHF on other forums to try drum up some hype in Halo and general gaming communities (Of course, it did prove the general belief that the majority of Halo players have less IQ than your average pen lid with some of the responses in communities) and so we recruited Jebus onto the team to do it officially from then on.

We also recruited tzarro a short while later for the purpose of making Covenant ships. At the same time we recruited other various members who seemed to simply disapear (Conspiracy?) within a week of being accepted onto the team.

And after a number of small, un-mentionable troubles, we some how managed to keep it together to still be here today, giving you these updates, and working towards a hopefully not so far off goal of completing HHF, giving you guys the opportunity to experiance all those things you've always wanted from Halo, and coming out at the end having gained atleast a small something that makes it all worth it.

And with that, i'm happy to conclude this long winded badly worded update, and i hope to bring you no more so NT can actually do his job in the future. ^^

We apologise for the lateness of the update (In the UK atleast it's actually the 18th) but we had some problems.

The CCS class looks a bit small but besides that every thing is great.

It's the length of the AC's head, which is about what it should be. It's also about 1/2 longer than the "normal" UNSC cruisers like the marathon and halcyon, so it's to scale.

It just looks small cause we made up a few bigger UNSC ships to give them some clout.

It's perfectly to scale, don't worry about it. ACs just happen to be HUGE

We currently don't plan on using any of the ships features in Halowars, due to their over powered states and general ability to defy physics.

Halogen was shot down because Microsoft thought it would be a good idea for bungie to make an RTS game of Halo. Halogen beat them to it so they shut it down because M$ is a **** and doesnt want anyone, not even non profit modders to compete with them. So once M$ wants to make a RTS Halo game in space, you know your going to be in trouble. Just pray that Bungie parts ways with M$ soon so they can make different games that arent Halo.

It's unlikely MS will attempt to make a space RTS for a while yet, first they'll test the water of the market with Halowars and then after the Halo brand has become bloated with pretty much every product you can think of like starwars they'll make a space RTS.

BUNGIE ISN'T MAKING HALOWARS

And Microsoft really doesn't need Bungie around to make a Halo space RTS.
