So they will be for defense only and won't be able to move?

Yeah, as you'd expect from stationary defense platforms :P.

I'm assume you mean the pre-built orbital things in FoC maps, no, you can currently place them wherever you want, like the smaller turrets and fighter yard in the current release.

As Johnson said... An Orbital Defense Platform can obliterate a Covenant Capital Ship in one shot. Wanna see if he kept his word. ;)

Wow excellent addition to CaW! Can these destroy CCS class ships in one shot? (as stated in Halo 2)
And can they fire once every 5 or so seconds? (as shown in Halo 2)

Lol no, that would be ridiculously OP, they fire around once every 20 seconds, and will take out full shields and at least 1 hardpoint with a single shot at the moment.

How many population points do theyh take? And about the one shot kill thing. Maybe they could be built on tier 5 as a last resort weapon. That way they'll have on shot kills but not for the whole battle

None in this shot actually, this is from my test game :P (built in a second, no population, 1 credit), but they take about 10 population normally.

The thing about 1 shot kills is that that's not really how the FoC engine works, it likes to target 1 hardpoint at a time (with the one exception of the superlaser). We could do it with splash damage, but it would kill a whole bunch of other stuff aswell.
Either way, I like how these things play at the moment, they show up at tech 4, just in time for the Covenant to start ripping you to pieces :P. They're not so OP that they unbalance the game, but are just OP enough to give the UNSC a fighting chance.

I think shooting more projectiles right after each other might work. Check the empire planetary turbolaser, or the one buildable as space defense in the Alliance mod.

Well yeah, that would take the ships down, but it would look ridiculous for an SMAC, it wouldn't be a single shot, it would be more like a weird looking spray.

We don't want it downing things in one hit anyway, Covenant players have to pay a lot for a CCS, it would be really annoying if the UNSC could take it down immediately.

true dat. sounds balanced from what you described though. as long as it doesnt waste time shooting at fighters wasting its precious cooldown on them instead of capital ships.

It's 'Resistance over Shola', a vanilla FoC map.

I absolutely love what I see here. Big halo fan, and just watching these updates scroll past my screen only makes me happier. The battles from the books recaptured using one of my favorite RTS's. :P Great job!

And, on the note of the S-MAC. Johnson stated in halo 2 that it can put a round clean through a covenant capital ship. Which, it does that. :P Just doesn't obliterate them. The UNSC DID lose space battles somehow, right? xD

Description

These powerful platforms are long range late-game UNSC assets, they're quite expensive, but are perfect for ripping Assault Carriers and other large Covenant ships to pieces.

These will be in the June patch.

The observant amongst you will notice that we also have a new MAC/SMAC particle.

No big update this time, just a little teaser to tide you over until June :).
