Exactly. The Halo 2 one is made for mining, while the Halo 3 one is for combat. (Not in the game though, they both kick @$$)

Uhm, sorry, but Scarabs are mining walkers, they are not combat units, although often used as such.

Wrong, the halo 2 scarab was indeed intended for mining, but it was deployed for war when it was needed, and to great effect, in halo 3 however it is clear that the scarab has been re-designed for combat, due to it's massive anti-air turret and the fact that the colour has been changed to the same as the covenants other combat units, purple, and of course it's official name, which is the type-47 ultra heavy assault platform.
