In what way(s) specifically? It actually has more poly's than any other infantry unit, except the UNSC Marines. However, that doesn't mean it is more detailed, per se. Any specific suggestions you have would be welcome.
Yeah, for some reason the UVs get pinched when I animate the elbow and it creates that odd look. Idk why it does that... The chest is a little square too but the model is already 700 tris, not counting the weapon and extra meshes needed for ALO export so I'm nervous about smoothing it out.
Brutus was the head of the Brutii family and a conspirator against the family Julii, who's patriarch was the Caesar, Julius. Brutus, along with several others, plotted against Julius Caesar and murdered him. The quote is one of Julius' last words as he realizes that even his closest, supposed ally has betrayed him.
This is where the term "brute" comes from and why it is used to describe someone who is ruthless and vicious. The fact that it's origins are rooted in betrayal also reveal why that name was chosen to represent the Jiralhanae race.
Will there be a brute shot variant and plasma rifle variant, or will they deploy in mixed companies like the Elites? To me this one seems like it could go either way.
This one requires a bit of explanation so brace yourself...
So, the Covenant will have a unique teching system that will allow the player to choose Elite or Brute doctrines. Elite doctrine will feature all the obvious Elite units as well as, Specter, Revenant, and so forth. Brute doctrine will eliminate those units and replace Zealot with Chieftain, Specter with Prowler, Field command company with an equivalent Brute company of mixed BPR and Brute Shot, etc.
If players want, they can also choose a mixed doctrine that will allow a mix of most units but without the Brute/Elite specific upgrades that go with each specific doctrine (those upgrades are still in the planning phase so I have no solid examples yet).
That is genius! Not too difficult to implement in galactic mode using some XML scripting, but it will be interesting to see how you manage to implement this in skirmish.
Skirmish is actually pretty easy too...Start with three possible tech upgrades at the commander center...once you pick one, the others become disabled and each unit type requires it's race-specific upgrade in order to appear in the build list. Make sense? It's actually rather simple to implement.
That's right! The upgrades used for tech use a tag to lock the lower tech upgrades. I like the idea. It's very canon and, to the extent of my knowledge, most EaW mods don't have tech tree specialization like this.
I know your no where near space yet, but it seems like if you choose the Elite tech route you should get better ships (since they beat the brutes over the ark 3 to 1) You could balance it out by making brutes overall better in land combat than Elites, since I am pretty sure they are physically stronger.
Also you should make the Brute Field Commander look like Tartarus. (I liked Tartarus XD)
Tartarus will be a hero unit so don't worry. Lol. Brutes and Elites use the same ships...its the commanders that make the difference. Brutes are aggressive and don't think things out before they throw themselves into a fight. Elites are more calm and calculating...much better tacticians, which makes all the difference in naval combat.
Best example is the video where the elites enter the portal to the ark, where an elite says brute ships bla bla outnumbered, he says it in a urgent way but also at the same time the elite is calm and is waiting for the shipmasters command. Ps using my WP 7 so I'm not finishing my sentence here because in to lazy to write with a phone.
Yay, I am so glad you went with the Halo 2 Brutes. The Halo 3 brutes looked too high tech, and the REACH brutes were just awful, but Halo 2 Brutes were great.
Well, Brute tech is supposed to be all over the map; sometimes really advanced, other times really primitive but usually a conglomeration of the two (ie: bayonets on advanced explosives weapons and so forth). And the idea behind the transition in armors is that once the Elites were cast out, the Covenant tech that was used to make Elite armors, then went into making armor for the Brutes.
The problem with the Reach Brutes though is that the art director wanted to make them look like apes, whereas in previous Halos, the direction was to make them appear more like sentient bears who behaved like apes.
oh ha ha ha/
good model
Looks good for an early model, needs a little work though, a bit of smoothing yeah?
Keep in mind that this is an RTS. Models don't need to be smooth, only relatively accurate.
Also a "smooth" Brute just sounds like a contradiction. lol
what i'm really saying is that this model lacks detail compared to the others
In what way(s) specifically? It actually has more poly's than any other infantry unit, except the UNSC Marines. However, that doesn't mean it is more detailed, per se. Any specific suggestions you have would be welcome.
The chest is a bit square and the elbows look off, likely because of the texture.

He was my lover!!
Nice one. IWHBYD skull quote, right? :D
=/ more like taken from the Halo 3 ViDoc "Et Tu, Brute?" or a quote from Julius Caesar, before getting killed.
Nice model btw.
"Et tu, Brute?" is Latin for, "You too, Brutus?"

BAM. You just got educated.
Actually it's somethimes thought that caesar said these words in greek which would translate to "Kai su teknon"
BAM BAM. educated the educator.
Woah, we got ourselves a badass here. lol
This brute is from halo 2 ^^
sweet model... and a floating brute plasma rifle
Looks kind of H2 styled, I like it =) Glad to see you're still working on this.
then fall Cesar
:'( Beautiful... Even the red Plasma Rifle is there....
yeah! nice.
could be a little hairier but awesome model
Well I was kinda going for a marriage of the Halo 2 and Reach styles...

Just more fodder for my Warthog task force!
Assuming that Farseer doesn't go all out and add in explosive physics, which would cause the brute shots to flip over my hogs.
What I wouldn't give to be able to do that!!
Thanks again everyone!

Its a little idea I stole from company of heroes... lol

Nice one. Keep it up man.
Beware the phantom plasma rifle...
Haha. I shopped it in so that people could see I was going to include it. It isn't part of the actual model.
Hey farseer! Glad you are back! Nice Brute and weapons! I can't wait to use the Spartan laser, that thing was beast in halo 3
And so it shall be again.
My only criticism would be that it's a bit too shiny. Other than that, it's great.
Yeah, the specular channel on the normal map is set too high...

Halo 2V, why not Halo 3/reach ???, but i do prefer halo 2 one and always will :)
Oh and it needs to be a bit more Fat i would say!
Halo Reach Brutes sucked. However, I know that others would not agree with that so I tried to design my Brutes to look like a little from both games.
This mod looks absolutely amazing, like so good that I'm going to go buy the game tomorrow just for this mod :)
Is there any way to install this mod on the steam version of the game? I keep getting an error.
Nice job with the Brute Captain :D See u've added the Brute Plasma Rifle from halo 2. Get model but needs smoothing out
