Hi again,

I have still been wanting to change the regiment and building limits of Axis and Allies to a larger number, so I've been trying to learn how to mod the game...

I found out that you can extract the game data files from Data.rwd so now I'm guessing that I have to open a file in there with notepad and edit a number value...

I'm use to editing C&C Red Alert's RULES.ini file so that's the base of my guess.

Could you please give me some tips on what files I have to edit to change the build/unit limits.... My guess is one of the .tgi or .lst files that can be open by notepad.

Thank you,

Happybattlefield1

I haven't been visiting online that much because I've been busy at work... however

here's a patch that changes those items, and nothing else.

I uploaded this patch awhile ago. the only thing this patch does is change the building limit and the regiment limit. if you open up these files with a text editor you should be able to see the location where these changes are made. paste this into your Axis and Allies folder and it should over-write the default data.

How many things in your mod are changed from the original game? I have a small 6 player LAN IPX party put together consisting of "old" Windows Xps...

The parts of your mod that make my mouth water are the: increased regiment and building limits, the barbed wire + other obstacles, and especially the black dragon howitzer...

But since I haven't tried your mod yet, what other changes are there that affect skirmish gameplay. We just play skirmish rounds of 3v3 or 6v2 AIs...

In some ways I think I'd rather have a mod that just increase the regiment and building limits only; not knowing the extend that the mod changes the original gameplay...

If it is a simple/ easy thing for you to do, could you please make and upload to ModDB a "mini/tiny" mod that changes only the reg. and building limits... please?

Although we haven't tried your mod, it took us weeks to understand and get use to the gameplay of the original and your mod would seem to make it "complex" "beyond comprehension"... for us noobs...lol

So my begging request of you super cool, skilled modders like you is to please make a little mod for the "classical gameplay" by just increasing the unit/building limits... please ? (with a cherry on top :) )

the old "Gizmotron" patch is more slightly more complex and tricky to learn compared to the original game. however, it's not as daunting or huge as "Uncommon Valor". if you already understand the basics of the game it should only take a week or so to get the hang of the old patch.

I've got a lot of things going on right now... but I might be able to post something like that in the next couple of weeks. maybe something simple that boosts the limit to 40 regiments. that would be fairly easy. with a small increase like that human players will become more flexible and dangerous. there will be less need for tent-swapping or disbanding regiments. however, the AI will act the same. the regiment limit would need to be bumped up to at least 60 or 80 before the AI starts behaving a bit differently.

Does this mod have different system requirements than the original game?

I'm using a windows xp with a pentium 4 cpu and a good graphics card and .99 GB of RAM...

I recently found out that my motherboard has room for 2 GBs of RAM rather than the two 512 MB RAMs I'm using...

This should help if your mod has any extra requirements of speed right?

the Gizmotron Mod has the same system requirements as the original game. might need a little more RAM but otherwise it's the same.

however "Uncommon Valor" seems to require more processing power and memory. I can still run it on my old XP tower CPU 6300 rated at 1.86 GHz with 1.99 Gigs of RAM.

when I try to run it on my old lap-top with a dual-core T4200 2 GHz and 2 Gigs of RAM the game 'taps out' in the middle of loading the data and drops to desktop.

you're machine sounds more high-powered than my aging warehorse of a tower so I think it should do fine.

I'm not nearly as computer literate as I once was so I hope that helps.

for Gizmotron you -should- be fine. I would expect the extra RAM would come in handy for "Uncommon Valor"

paste the data folder inside of your A&A program folder and then start the game. there should be some basic instructions included with the mod itself.
