The FOJ Community mod for Flatout2(patched to 1.2)is now uploaded and ready for download, it contains 3 parts that make up the full mod .

Some History:
This game was meant to be unmoddable just like Flatout 1, it came with no mod tools, no sdk or any type of editor. But thanks to the skills from a handfull of community members. The game has bin torn apart and upgraded FOJ style,by using the .bfs packer/unpacker(used on bfs game files, database tools(used to decompile/recompile database), customized blender editor(for track editing),language editor(language files editor),flatout1 track editor(used before blender editor available),mod manager(easily add and remove mods with a few clicks of mouse) and of course the reverse track program.

The Mod Info:
-able to handle 135 cars (45 stock ,90 custom)
-single race options added
-ai skins to work with single race options
-car selection memory (once you pick a car and race a track, when you go back to car selection you will start with that car)
-new car selection: stock cars show up at first, press up or down to cycle from stock to carpack1 or carpack2 beta cars etc.Due to this , the delete key is now used for skin selection.
-single race track selection redone like car selection, once at a track, press down and you have that track in reverse, press down again and if there was a custom track it will show up.
-new minimap options added to options menu: small, med, large, medium +full size map, large +fullsize map.
-ragdoll on/off added to options menu
-manual/auto trans option added to first options menu screen with minimap and ragdoll options.
-options menu now accessible in online lobby, can switch from automatic to manual transmission easily when going from derby to race mode.
-new race types: race pong mode now available (drive to finish line, turn around and drive to start/finish line) More or less suicide race ;-p
-new derby modes: derby tag(aka hunter /prey) derby last man standing(normal dd with no points, last one alive wins)
-dd all tracks ( host a derby on any track)
-30 reversed tracks
-13 custom tracks, modified stock tracks of course with new race routes;-p
-13 new online tournament presets
-carpack1, which contains 45 cars taking up car spots 46-90.
Those are the main features.

FOJ Mod Installer created by Gulbroz, can be found here:

Remember, after mod is installed you still need to start game , create a brand new not used profile and enter the "GIEVEPIX" cheat so all cars show up.

Basic installation: (without installer)
Extract the 4 .bfs files and the "patch" file to game directory from the 3 winrar files. Start game , create a brand new not used profile and enter the "GIEVEPIX" cheat so all cars show up. You will want to extract the mod manager later to add more mods .

Optional Downlaod for part1 of mod:Click here!

Of course you can follow this thread, the ongoing requests and info / state of the mod and its future.

The mod manager is included in the main mod part 1, to make a new patch file when needed or to go back to stock patch file.

Current outstanding bugs:
1. Watching replay in singleplayer stunts will have you stuck in replay mode. But replay of stunt works fine in career mode.
Solution: none so far.
2. If online and playing hunter/prey(tag), if a player drops and you do not hit escape to go back to online lobby before the timer runs out and the round ends, you will be stuck viewing the dropped player and will have to hit "alt-f4" to close down game.
Solution: none so far.
3. New bug found: If the host selects "use same car as host" option and a player goes to car selection menu(to change skin) , that player's game will crash.
Solution: If you are hosting a race ,do not use the "use same car as host " option. Type in the chat box instead to have all use a certain car.Or just let people drive what they want ;-p

Updates:

Carpack 2 final version is done. ( part 4 ) Carpack 2 still requires the foj mod parts 1 , 2 and 3 to be installed as this pack is considered part 4.

Carpack 2 thread. Click here!

Whats new:

-57 new cars, 7 cars in carpack1 have been replace with new cars and carpack 2 has 50 new cars. The Flatout game hit a wall after trying to load 141 cars, so this will be the limit on how many cars ( 140 ) Flatout 2 will load at one time.

-new hud, new buttons/fonts for the game, updated database for mod extension to 140 cars.
-if you have not tried any carpack2 cars that were in beta stage, then I guess cars 91-140 will be new to you.

-We have combined the updates with carpack 2, this in turn means there is no use for the "foj's_community_mod_overrite.bfs" as it was combined with carpack2, so that file can be deleted from game folder. The new patch file looks like this:

patch1.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Trackpack1.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Carpack1.bfs
FOJs_Carpack2_and_updates.bfs

****** we don't use foj's community mod overrite anymore, its part of the updates and carpack2 bfs file *********

We now have FOJ Community Mod with Carpack 2 packup into one rar file that is an exe file format. When exe is clicked, it will unpack the bfs files for the mod.

Complete FOJ Mod in one .exe file

Bug fixed:

Replays for single player stunt mode is now fixed and you will not be stuck in replay mode, thanks goes to "Peter Greene" on empire forums.

0 comments by Purple44 on Nov 8th, 2013

Hey Flatout fans, Bugbear been working on their new derby/racing game, working title "Next Car Game", for now. Bugbear is self-publishing this time around, since publishers don't think there a market for a "Flatout" style, no rules racing game, Bugbear wants to prove them wrong and make a game Bugbear and Flatout fanatics can be proud of!

To that end, Bugbear started a Kickstarter page November 1:

Next Car Game: A Motorsport With Attitude!

Thursday, Nov 7, Bugbear posted an update at the Kickstarter page and shocked the Flatout community: Smiley

"Hey, everyone!
Since we’re currently running a Kickstarter campaign for our Next Car
Game, we thought it would be a great time to share something very
special with you.

You can now download a prototype that we created over 10 years ago that has never been shown publicly. The prototype is a little rough around the edges, but it served as an initial actualization of our vision for a reckless racing game, and despite the humble beginnings, it later grew into a game franchise loved by millions of fans."

Here pic of the Beetle of Flatout lore that been talk about in many a Flatout forum over the years:

Also Bugbear looking to be friendly to modders this go around according to Bugbear Dev, Joonas Laakso:

"We have decided to support modding as we recognize it’s a large part of why FlatOut is still known and played today. How exactly that’s going to work we don’t know yet, but the goal is to have user-created tracks and cars available, though Steam Workshop or otherwise. We’re likely not going to ship actual editors, but rather tools you can use to export models into
the game."

And if you got the modding itch right now, go to Bugbear Kickstarter page and
download Bugbear Retro Demo 2002, now for free. The Retro Demo is unpack.
Have some fun tweaking the game files in the \data folder. :)

Note: Bugbear has said,

Janne wrote:the game will be released even if the Kickstarter campaign is not
succesful. It's just that a successful campaign would enlarge our player
base and give us means to make the game even better and larger in
scope.

I take it you were trying to download this file:

Click to download FOJ_CommunityMod_Setup.exe if it doesn't start automatically or try another mirror.

I tried downloading file logged in and logged out and I was able to download exe file both times.

Are you logged in as an admin in your Windows? If not, your browser may be stopping you from downloading an exe file from the Internet. My Avast ask me if I really wanted to download this file and I had to tell it yes.

Also the installer only works on Community Mod parts 1-3. Will not unpack the rar files for parts 4 and part 5 or the other carpacks.

Would be best to get free version of WinRar so can unpack all the files in the download section. Win-rar.com

If you have not heard yet, Bugbear has sent out emails Saturday to those that have pre-order the Next Car Game, with a link to Steam key for NCG pre-alpha. The pre-alpha has the muscle car from Sneak Peek demo and also the small Euro car. There 1 derby pit, 1 dirt track and 1 tarmac track. Can select 12 car or 24 car race or derby.

Thanks guys, we're really happy to hear you're having such a great experience. To be honest, we didn't have too much time for testing to get the release out in time for the holidays, so we were a bit anxious about the quality of the build. Like I think I already stated elsewhere, there are quite a few issues that need to be fixed, but luckily they should not be too detrimental to the experience at this point.

We're also really happy that the first build is finally out because it means that we have pretty much nailed all the boring (to any of our coders reading this, sorry!) stuff and can finally concentrate on building the game around the base we now have. That means more tracks with more content, more cars, proper upgrading, better driving dynamics, and so on, and of course a lot of fine-tuning to everything that we already have.

Of course you guys will be first ones to enjoy all the improvements first-hand with our future Early Access releases.

Here an update:

This got posted Sunday over at Bugbear forum:

24 cars on track - GREAT! And a quick question
Community.bugbeargames.com

"Janne wrote:
Well, more cars was one thing that you guys were asking, wasn't it? :D

Unless something major comes up, we will keep the 24 cars for the full game at least for offline play. We have been already testing track races and derbies with the full grid of 24 cars, and thanks to our efficient tech, the performance hit is surprisingly minor. The chief problem is that, as you can imagine, the tracks get extremely crowded since most of them have been designed for a lesser amount of cars, so the going gets quickly very rough. But of course that's something that can be worked around, so it's not really going to pose a problem.

Online is something that we cannot confirm yet.

Big news - 24 car derbys coming to NCG?

After having some fun with Bugbear sneak peek demo release Friday, had to go catchup on my Bugbear forum reading. A lot of new faces and posts thanks to demo.

I found this post and had to ask:

**Will we get 24 car derbys offline?**

Playable technology sneak peek available now!:

As for the sneak peek, great to hear it seems to be running fine for most of you. We're pretty proud how cost-efficient our engine is even with a full grid on 24 cars, every single one having the same advance damage physics. That has always been one of our goals because we really want to have a LOT of action and keep the game playable even without a super computer.

>>>>

So can Bugbear answer the BIG $24 question or is it to soon to ask?

**Will we get 24 car derbys offline?**

I know it not going happen online, but demo does show players with good PC hardware can handle 24 car derbys offline. And if have slider, player can see how many cars his computer can handle. This maybe would be a problem for career mode, put I think we would be OK if could do it just in quick derby mode.

Here Bugbear response to my question:
