Final Project
Oct 8, 2010 Full Version 5 commentsToday we finally released our 4th HL2 (ep2) single player mod!
i have just changed the profile of this mod here on Moddb from a HL2 sp-mod into a HL2 ep2 sp-mod!
Hopefully does this not mean that many people who wanted to play this mod now can't play it anymore because they don't own episode 2 (HL2).
I should have changed this about 5 months ago, but fully overlooked this.
We did start out as a HL2 mod, and just when it was finished did Valve release that huge corrupted Steam update that changed everything. Like explained before did we had to rebuild the whole mod into a ep2 mod.
so, you do need ep2 now to play this one.

Finally we have reached the release day of our 4th Half Life2 (ep2) single player mod Final Project. Right after we released our previous monster of a sp-mod called Strider Mountain I started working on a new small sp-mod called Final Horror.
It should only be big 4 maps max, but like always when i start mapping couldn't i stop anymore. So it grow into more and more maps and at the same time did the focus of the mod shift from horror in to a story driven mod. I thought it would be funny to make a mod about the mapper at work, a Mappers diary. All went well and we progressed from 4 maps in to 10 maps. But just before we could
release the mod did Valve release that one big Steam update that caused us all so many problems.
Many mods that where released over the years, and those that where still in development where corrupted in a big way.
A lot of our work was destroyed and it seemed we couldn't do anything about it, releasing as it was was no option anymore. The Steam update had corrupted a lot of things that we couldn't fix because we didn't know how. Valve didn't answer any mails, or explained anything. So all we could do was try to fix things ourselves, and look at the modding community to see if they had any answers.
It took weeks before we where able to start fixing issues, and from there on we needed a total of 6
months to make this mod work again. It was a very frustrating time and often did i want to stop and just trow the mod away. But we never did stop with a mod before, so this would not be the first time, the more so because we didn't cause the reason of stopping. We are glad we are now at this point that we finally can release the mod. Still, the mod doesn't look at all at what i had in mind. The story is not told like how i would have made it, but at the same time we are glad we can release it as it is.
It would have been a huge waste of time and effort to not release it. The mod is bug free and we hope it will give you around 10 hours of great game play.

INSTALLATION:
In this rar you find a folder called;
final_project_diary_V3
don't extract this folder to you're sourcemods folder, but open the folder and in it you find the mods folder and a readme.txt. extract this one to youre sourcemods folder.
this counts only for this download link above, when you download the mod from the Download section of Moddb, then you extract the first folder in the rar right away to sourcemods.

Love the mod! It just seems kind of random to me. But I love it anyway!
That corrupted Valve update was to upgrade the graphics options of HL2 and HL2 Ep 1 to like that of Ep 2, so the combine shotgunners have the red goggles, and bloom and HDR effects are available in the video options. But yeah it made the game crash easily if you decided to stop playing halfway through and minimize it to the task bar.
thanks, nr 2 on your nr 10 list!
WOW!

Awesome mod! it's no.2 on my top ten hl2 sp mods.
seems it's a nice time for me to enjoy mods as I did way back 2000 on
good old HL1.
no, that is not true!!
in the beginning nobody knew how we needed to work around the latest Valve update, and valve itself didn't do anything. I remember like yesterday that the whole modding community didn't know where to start, only after many weeks of trying and fixing some of the issues where fixed. Still, it took months to get it all working again. SO don't start with 10 secs, because that is simply not true, and i know it.
Guess you where simply to young back then to remember this well Shirk.

Lol 6 months to remake it? Try 10 seconds. All you needed to do was change the .dlls and the gameinfo.txt and bam its fixed.
Show me your mods that you have made. Oh that's right, you haven't finished or released any, so don't go about saying how mods should be finished and repaired when you yourself cant even get a mod done. Come back later when you actually know what its like to have lost your work then have to redo it.
I love this mod, sure it has it's ups and downs like everything but this is very creative. Good work
Thanks DelphinusMinor,
glad to hear you did like it. please check all our mods if you are interested;
Moddb.com
or maybe you already played some of them.
thet are all sp mods,
leon
I didn't encounter any bugs playing this.
I thought it was an excellent mod. It was long, and had some unique gameplay.
I don't see why anyone would complain about it.
Great mod...
