this is a "old" screenshot where i have tested different watershader with not so blue colored ocean surface. i ended up throwing this away because the water ripple sun-bump reflections from the blue water shader i currently use, gives a better water "ambience" and a better contrast to green vegetation.

I like this kind of water better. Doesn't make the game look like it is still at the island

yes and no: the problem is: if you look now to the right side, with no sun in front, you have no sun reflection on water, and the water surface looks like a grey solid plane, and if you drive trough the canyon to open water (ocean), it just looks like a bug, not a wet water surface. and then it eats up additionally more CPU, so i ended up throwing this away :/

correct! i tried to add additional bump shader in third waterlayer like the blue ocean, but it always looks strange, eats up to much CPU and to be honest: shader programming is still a big black crate for me, even if i start to understand how things are work and adressed, but its a own programming language, like the menu widget system, the c++ section or the lua part. shaders are the fourth different lanugage.

edit april 2017:
two years later this nice watershader is totally gone, replaced by a much uglier, blue one. (heavy performance problems and the scalable waterquality works only for one watershader which crytek have prepared it for this special case. i ofcourse tried to hack / copy this whole procedure but its not possible, its somewhere some prebaked stuff where i have no access into it :( )
