Not necessarily, this is chaos after all >:D
There was some inspiration from Khorne berserkers / Kharn in the model design, but it's more about getting a variety of looks for the classes.
Oh yeah, that is understandable, units do need to have a recognizable silhouette. Just got the khornate vibe from the horns as I don't think I've ever seen the pinions on non-berzerker Chaos guys before.
I like that the venerable Mark III helmet has made an appearance, it adds a nice echo of the Heresy to the spiky dudes.
