Sins of a Solar Empire is often described as a 4XRTS game, or a game that tried to merge the action and tactics packed gameplay of a Real time strategy game with the deep, complex, empire wide strategy of a 4X turn based game. It's up to debate whether Sins succeeded in this goal, but I think all can agree that of the 4Xs of "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate", Sins is much more focused on the exterminate than on the others. This mod seeks to give more depth to the other 3Xs of the game by adding additional game elements or refining the existing ones to reward players who give more strategic thought to the non-combat side of the game. Combat will still be the center point of the game, but players will find that the non-combat options available will be much more rewarding. Spying, exploring, sabotage, diplomacy, culture, and economic development have all been added or changed in innovative new ways. Regardless of what you think Sins is, this is the 4XRTS it should have been.

In case you missed it, Enhanced 4X 1.4 has now been officially released. Thanks to all the beta testers for finding all those bugs. It should work perfectly fine with the new 1.031 patch, but if you notice anything odd report it in the bug report forums as usual.

The Enhanced 4X optional AddOns package has also returned. While only the Doubled Capitalships and Fleet Supply and Faster Combat minimods are were kept from Diplomacy (the rest will be added in later versions), there is also a new one that replace the main menu music with something a bit more familiar.

If you're new to the mod, check out the Beginners Guide, and check out some of the topics (or make your own) in the Advice forum.

And a word about the future. Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion patch 1.04 is due to be out by the end of July. This will be a major patch that will break saves and mods, so if you want to keep playing Enhanced 4X until a version for 1.4 is released make sure you tell steam to not automatically update the game. Hopefully it won't take too long to update but its hard to say until the patch has been released.
