Looks great! Also, I'm not sure if this is a port of the Red Forest to the SOC engine or is this really getting ported to Clear Sky?

Thanks. This here is Kostya's map pack, so it's the CS map having been ported to SoC.

And no sorry, I definitively won't port DS to CS.

I see that is interesting.

That's a pity, but I understand that it would take a lot of time for something which is already in the game.

Don't get me wrong, but in my opinion CS is the worst of the three original Stalker games. Not technically, but conceptually. Take, for example, the level where you are supposed to persue and kill Strelok through a whole map. I had a rocket launcher and blasted a rocket right into his back but Strelok happily continued running... and the game is full of crap like that. I certainly wouldn't want to waste my precious spare time to spend any work on that game.

Apart from that, both CS and CoP (plus LA and CoC) have much better graphics already out-of-the-box compared to SoC, so many things that I did wouldn't be worth the effort porting them. And those features that really might be worth porting, there are already others doing that :)

I know, but the CS also brought a lot of great things like the artifact detectors, faction wars, (when they work), weapon bobbing, better engine and so on. By the better engine, I mean the technical part like the implementation of the artifact detectors, different hand textures and other features which can be on the SOC engine, but not fully implemented like in the Clear Sky. Of course, that's the only way to play CS is the Sky Reclamation Project because without it, I would probably never play Clear Sky ever again.

Yes, they definitely have and it's better that it is like that so you can focus on one game which doesn't have that high level of graphic.

Sure, but the things you mention are yet better implemented in the games / mods newer than CS (CoP, LA, CoC etc.). So IF I ever shall decide to move to another Stalker game it will by CoP / CoC rather than CS.

The best thing in CS was the marshes map which IMHO is one of the most beautiful maps in all Stalker games. And since that map has been ported to SoC, CoC, an other games/mods I really see no reason to consider CS in any way anymore.

But that of course is all subject to personal favor :)

I know, but the CS was the first which has brought these things.

Why that map? It was very confusing for new players and I also don't much like it, since I can't run in the water (without an add-on) which I could easily in the real life. I like the towers and the church in the swamp, but also the Limansk, Hospital and the Red Forest looked great, so I like all maps in that game. Except the last one which was a huge mess.

Well as I said, it's personal taste. Sure, the swamps might be confusing at the beginning, but that's also what's freeplay should be like, to a certain extent at least.

CS is mostly linear, you have to follow the given path through a level, much like many other ego player games do it as well. But that is exactly the opposite of what Stalker was about in the first place, namely a game that lets you explore the maps freely. This is one reason why I like the marshes map most in CS, because it's the map that has left most of this free exploration spirit in it.

Sure, you can't really play it without the modification to run in the water, but that's peanuts in my opinion - there are many other things behaving strange or even completely wrong in all of the Stalker games without applying some hotfix or mod ;)

Limansk, Hospital and Red Forest as great maps as well, but I miss the freedom I got in the marshes swamps. Especially Limansk and Hospital are way to linear, at least in their original version in CS. Also, trees are not something that is made really well in all vanilla Stalker games, that's why Red Forest looks much worse than it could (ok the bushes in the marshes aren't better...).

The problem is that, there is a fraction system which want you to rush to the enemy immediately.

Unfortunately, that's true, but I don't really considering the CS to be a true S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. It's more of a spin off for me. The SOC & COP are still much better, but some things like the fraction system are interesting. Unfortunately, it's very unfinished and if the enemies wouldn't see you through that grass and there would be an actual stealth system then it would be much better. Also, other maps could be less linear.

Yes, you right, but those peanuts are important for small details are amazing. Games like Max Payne 1, Max Payne 2, Mafia The City of Lost Heaven, Gothic 1, Gothic 2 and many others are an excellent game and those small details there are great.

Exactly! That's one of the main reasons why the Call of Chernobyl is one of the best S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods ever. Also, the trees is not that problem since there is Absolute Nature 2 for it, but unfortunately not the AN3. However, that is why I'm waiting for the Ghost Land mod: Moddb.com
