A texture mod for Half-Life 2, converting most brush textures to dev textures in order to provide a more lag-free playthrough for users on more low-end machines This is not a mod for beautification, this is a mod for efficiency. It has been proven that dev textures actually lower the amount of lag on games, so I wanted to make this for the gamers with not-so-good machines. Now, I know, "EVERYONE IN TEH WORLD HAS A SOOPER COMPUTER!!!!", but I got into PC gaming with a horribly old laptop, and relied on "Orange" maps on Day of Defeat: Source to bring me a gaming experience. Having finally gotten a new computer, I felt that it was time for me to pay that community back.

Oh my...
I don't even see the point, when the real need for performance lies in the modelling, ConVar's and initial programming of the source engine.
This is going to get your about 1fps more, and look like utter crap.
I suggest you find some other game to mod that works, or i suggest you look into recoding some of the engine to work under lower spec.
I don't know what everybody's on about, this could be a fun way to replay half-life 2 in a more simplistic setting.
This is really useless, who can't run Hl2 or even L4D today... You better use your time to make a real mod :D
I can't run L4D, and this runs with lag. (crappy video card) And I am working on something else along with this. This is more of a "work on this when I'm stressed" project.
You realize you aren't going to fix more than at most 2 Frames per second. Textures do not cause most of the lag in-game, unless they are High-Res. Which dating 6 years ago, its obviously not going to be very high res. What causes lag on ****** computers like yours, how much is rendering at one time. If you want to make a USEFUL mod for ****** computers... like yours, try limiting rendering.
Good Luck ruining Half Life 2.
Like I said, you can all care or not, but it's something I feel I need to do. And besides, I still run HL2 with lag, seing as though I need a new video card. (Probably gonna get that Friday)
But speculate as you want. Besides, it's aminly something I'm doing for fun/as a side project.
Besides, I'm making HL2 look like it were made by 5 year olds. Take that, VALVe and your high productivity!
Sounds like military Excuse.
No offence...but this is just...a waste of time, both of ours and yours.
1/9001 people will have a **** computer.
And that 1/9001 people won't be gamers.
So you're saying no gamers have ****** computers? I disagree.
