D-day! a mod that needs no introduction... but just in case:

D-day is a Would War II TC mod for the highly popular game Red Alert 2: Yuri’s Revenge, is the largest & longest running mod for RA2 to date. With hundreds of highly detailed & accurate units from pre World War 2 to a hypothetical post war. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to fight the good fight on land, sea & air. There are eight playable countries in D-day, as well as several other non-playable ones.

The playable sides are:

  • America
  • Great Britain
  • France
  • Soviet Union
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Hungary
  • Japan

The pride of D-day is the DTX terrain, which completely changes RA2’s cartoony look into a gritty WW2 landscape that has been heavily researched to create an authentic atmosphere. D-day also features maps of such places as Berlin, Stalingrad, Kursk, El Almain & even New York! Created using battlefield maps & period photos to get the highest accuracy possible.

It's June 6th, D-day!

This year marks the 69th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, it's also the 11th year that D-day has been in development. But more importantly it's the 1st anniversary of D-day's public release. To celebrate all these anniversaries I'm proud to announce the release of version 3.7 of D-day.

Download D-day v3.7

The last year has seen a lot of work done to D-day, many bugs have been fixed, improvements to the game play, updated graphics & over 100 new units!

The main addition to v3.7 is the inclusion of Hungary as a new playable country, with 47 new buildings & units, most of which have never been seen in a WW2 game, or even mod before.

America has also been split into two sub faction, the Army & Marine Corps. Playing as the Army gives you units most commonly seen in the European theater, choosing the Marine Corps though lets you play using units from the Pacific war.

There are also four new maps to play on all of which are based on real life locations:

First is the map of Berlin which has gone through several iterations over the last decade, each one more detailed & accurate then the last. This one being the first to reach a playable state, it is however still a work in progress & is missing a few things, which will be added in the next beta.

Berlin

Berlin

Berlin

Staying in Europe the second map is based on Arnhem which most will know from Operation Market Garden, where British paratroops held the bridge single handily against German forces for over a week!

Arnhem

Next is the first Pacific themed map to be added to D-day, Wake Island. This tiny spot of land in the middle of the Pacific Ocean was attacked just after the bombing of Pearl Harbour & after two weeks of fighting fell to Japanese forces.

Wake

Lastly is D-day's first desert map the Suez Canal. Even though no fighting ever took place around this vital water way it was one of Erwin Rommels main objectives during the North Africa campaign. The British managed to stop him though & then go on to defeat the German forces in Africa.

Suez

Unfortunately there are a few things that didnt make it into this beta too:

Naval warfare is still a work in progress & isn't included in this release, several sides are still missing the ships needed for all sides to be balanced.

Superweapons are also still not available, The majority of the code is done but they still require a lot more artwork before they are finished.

The capture point system that I recently posted about isn't complete either, it will take some more time to code all the AI scripts necessary to make them use the cap points efficiently.

Hello Mig,

I have a couple of questions for you. Will the other varieties of infantry (Machinepistol equipped etc) be recruitable in later versions of the mod?

Will you be including some more units in the period skirmishes? Stugs would be a great addition for the Germans as an alternative to the Marder. Especially once they've had the longer 75 put in. I've noticed the Germans seem to lean more to the 1940-41 kit during their early game rather than the 42 era stuff. Great, if you fancy simulating an action in 1941. But this trend leaves them at quite a disadvantage against the Soviets with their heavier KVs and model-42 T34s. Perhaps an upgrade for the Pz. IV D (or is it an F1?) to the IV F2 (75mm KwK 40 L/43) would be in order. Historically speaking the Germans did precisely that to counter the Soviet heavies in 1942. It would do a lot to bridge the gap between the present Pz. IV in the early game and the Ausf. H/J in 43 onwards. The Panzer III could do with an upgrade to the longer 50mm gun as well for the same reasons.

Having said all that It can be fun rushing in an MCV to set up a PAK-Front though.

Now, I've played a good few skirmishes in a number of different modes: (incl. "Total War" and although you do get most of these units in that mode you really don't get too far producing them as the enemy will be producing the state-of-the-art heavies instead. Perhaps a kind of "Total-War" per period would work? Although, I must admit, I do prefer things being more manageable.

Yes More infantry types are planed, such as machine pistols, heavy machine guns, mortars, snipers, medics & spies. Making the graphics for them is a difficult & lengthy processes tho so I cant say when they will be added.

I have actually been thinking about adding infantry support type units such as the Stug, Brummbär, Kv-2, SU-122, M4 105mm & British CS tanks. Which would be used like short ranged direct fire artillery.

The Panzer IV D actually used to be the F2 variant but I downgraded it for various reasons, looking at it's competition now tho maybe it should go back to the F2. Yes the Panzer III could probably do with an upgrade too.

I already plan on adding a mini Total War mode for each time period. It's a low priority atm but it will hopefully make it into v3.8.

Many thanks for the speedy and detailed reply. I look forward to all of these additions.

Adding in infantry cs tanks like the StuH (Sturmhaubitze - Stug III with a 10,5cm Howitzer), would be a good idea. The Stummel variant to start off with for the early war (39-41 sort of timeframe) and then the StuH for 41-42. Stug IIIs and IVs would be good and (later especially) cheaper alternatives to medium tanks and TDs (as in reality). F2 Variant of the Panzer IV as an upgrade (for the IVD) to simulate innovations in 42 would be a good thing to have and the upgrade for the Pz III also.

I'm loving the game by the way. You have done a sterling job!

Oddly I can't seem to choose which american faction I want to use, I think it gives me access to all units, might be because I'm using the 1935-1955 time line, any confirmation?

The American sub factions are available in all time frames except Total War (1935-1955).

You're playing the Unholy Alliance game mode, change the mode in the map selection screen to play normally.

D-Day "See You On The Beach" ****: An Invasion Ten Years In The Waiting D-Day is a project that has been in the works longer than some players have been playing Yuri's Revenge. Since the time that D-Day began to take shape back in 2002, The West has completed it's "War on terror", an African American was elected as POTUS, the Arab World rose up in revolt and Social media sites took over our lives. Indeed the D-Day mod has been in the works for a long time, but finally through the hard-work of it's…
