Retro Generals is a classic de-make of the C&C Generals and ZeroHour Game in the Red Alert Engine. Bringing all you love about the game in a 2D voxel-based RTS game with retro pixel art graphics. Retro Generals is a collaboration between Dafool and Mircea of Rivia to bring the factions and feel of Generals Zero Hour to Yuri's Revenge. The aim is eventually to feature an entire custom set of Structures, Vehicles, and Infantry art.

ANK Studios is proud to present the open Beta of Retro Generals. This beta release is made available to Generals everywhere to lead their favorite faction to victory. Our goal here is to allow a large number of players to hop into battle to test and evaluate the mod so we can gain community input to ultimately create the best mod possible.

If you are a fan of C&C Generals, C&C in General, or RTS games, this is a great chance to check out an action packed mod set in the modern era.

The War is Never Over...


Continue the fight between the USA, China, and GLA featuring all of the classic units and structures from Generals and Zero Hour ‘Demastered’ for Red Alert 2: Yuri’s Revenge. Utilizing Ares, Phobos, CnCnet, and Kratos, Retro Generals features cutting edge logic to bring certain units alive in YR that have not been possible until now. Play with the full roster of Zero Hour and specialized Generals. New Generals join the fray, including the US Drone (wait until you see the loading screen!) the GLA Marauder Generals, and over a dozen new units are available, including Predator Drones, HIMARS artillery, Krokodil Attack Helicopters, Scimitar Tanks, Leigong Tanks, Flamethrowers, and more.

Attention to Detail


The units and structures have been lovingly recreated for the YR engine with the goal of creating great art while capturing the ‘feel’ and nostalgia of the Generals originals. All infantry and faction structures (currently only USA and GLA) have been recreated in Blender and pre-rendered into the “SHP” format by DaFool. Vehicles have been handcrafted either from scratch of voxilizations of original Generals 3d models and finalized by hand by creators such as Midian, Yuri_Prime, Red Counterstrike, and Mircea. Other structures (currently China by MigEater and Civilian by Danielovich) are renders of the original Generals models. Over 2,000 animations have been added, from everything from directional deaths for infantry, new explosions, animations to make buildings feel more alive, to rag doll animations for infantry – sure to make the destruction beautiful. We also have recreated skirmish maps including Alpine Assault, Twilight Flame, Golden Oasis, Sand Serpent, and Lone Eagle by Morton.

Better mod for red alert 2 :)

I have a problem with permission for some reason

When set the resolution to 1024 × 768

Half my screen is black What's wrong ?

Other mods don't have this. How to fix it ?

The first plus is the models of units, they are well detailed,
A bunch of all sorts of effects, explosions, the development of trees in the wind, smoke, sparks.
Redesigned maps for the mod.
Convenient game options, now you can disable additional abilities, such as, for example, killing almost any buildings by bombing

Cons ...
The mod has retained the original imbalance of the game, when a group of humvees is able to endure anything in a micro second.
It is not possible to play for China because of bugs, and they are made so that it is not convenient to specially make the game for them.
Inferocannon should cause huge damage to buildings, but for some reason they cause weak damage.
Towers do not repair ground equipment and air.
Helix costs 3000, but a unit with such a cost does not have an auto repair, why? a riddle ...
in addition, Helix somehow has not enough health for such an expensive unit.
Nuclear guns explode when destroyed, yes, I consider this a minus.
And most importantly, bots do practically nothing, the most complex bot can send a group of tanks, but because of the imbalance of the game, they will instantly die from simple rocket men for 300

I understand perfectly well that developing a game is very expensive and difficult, especially for such a game.
So I'll just say briefly what I think will improve the gameplay:
Adjust the balance, damage and armor type of units so that the game does not turn into one Humvee, yes, these are generals, but this is a mod, and mods are very well-polished projects.
And just fix bugs.

No offense taken, I appreciate the honesty and will take the feedback on board. I will do my best to address the issue with future updates.

Also for longer posts you can join us on Discord where I will add a dedicated place for bug and balance reporting. We have added a new tester on board and that should improve things.

Thank you for commenting. Please note this is a Beta release, and China has had the least amount of focus. USA and GLA have had their structures made from scratch, while China is using old conversions by Mig_Eater. The Full release will feature a whole new building set for China.

Balance is subject to change and is a work in progress, thank you for your input.
