D-day! a mod that needs no introduction... but just in case:

D-day is a Would War II TC mod for the highly popular game Red Alert 2: Yuri’s Revenge, is the largest & longest running mod for RA2 to date. With hundreds of highly detailed & accurate units from pre World War 2 to a hypothetical post war. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to fight the good fight on land, sea & air. There are eight playable countries in D-day, as well as several other non-playable ones.

The playable sides are:

  • America
  • Great Britain
  • France
  • Soviet Union
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Hungary
  • Japan

The pride of D-day is the DTX terrain, which completely changes RA2’s cartoony look into a gritty WW2 landscape that has been heavily researched to create an authentic atmosphere. D-day also features maps of such places as Berlin, Stalingrad, Kursk, El Almain & even New York! Created using battlefield maps & period photos to get the highest accuracy possible.

We once more delve into the seemingly never ending Japanese unit list with some of their late war self propelled guns.

Click of the unit names to visit their D-day wiki page for more information & pictures.

In the closing stages of the war the Japanese navy modified fourteen Type 97 Chi-Ha "Shinhoto" tanks, fitting them with a short barrelled 120mm naval gun. The massive weapon required multiple recoil cylinders and could only just fit inside the Chi-Ha's small turret. Because of this an extension was built onto the back of the turret to hold the ammunition. There also wasn't any space inside the tank for the crew to loading the gun, so instead the loader had to stand on top of the tank and push the ammunition threw the back of the turret. All of the tanks were issued to the Japanese Special Naval Landing Forces who deployed them to several bases around Japan to defend against the expected American invasion.

When American occupation forces entered Tateyama gunnery school in Yokosuka they discovered a Type 97 Chi-Ha tank that had been modified by removing the turret and fitted it with a 120mm Type 10 naval cannon. Only a single vehicle was found and it is unclear if it was a makeshift weapon built by the gunnery school or if it was a prototype there for testing. Due to the weapons extreme weight and powerful recoil it is dubious that the Chi-Ha's light riveted hull could survive the stress of firing the weapon for long. However it would have been be a great threat to any Allied armour.

The Type 5 Ho-Chi was a project to mount a Type 96 150mm artillery cannon onto the hull of the Type 97 Chi-Ha. It is believed that the Osaka arsenal built and tested the weapon and mount but wasn't able to fit it onto a prototype tank before the war ended.

Why is Sweden going to be in the game? They weren't even in the war. Also, the new format of the website excludes the structures.

Another question, are you going to make helicopters faster? They move slower than infantry.

The Enemy AI is difficult to beat, even on hard D:
Also, from the pictures, ships are going to be unrealistically small

I forgot to edit this earlier, but also, why are the vehicles so expensive?

There is a large difference between a pre-war light tank and a post-war heavy, the heavy being able to flight of 10 light tanks etc so to keep things balanced the heavy tank needs to costs 10 times more.

Many people have also complained that the amount of credits you can gather is to high and thus the expensive heavy tanks to easy to obtain, making weaker cheaper light tanks pointless.

The economy will be redone in the next version of D-day to fix some of these issues.

Hi there,

I tried following the installation instructions as laid out in the ARES download and the mod's readme, but I just got the vanilla version of Yuri's Revenge playing.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled both RA2 and Yuri's Revenge and this time installed the Launch Base programme to get around having to install ARES myself, but the mod isn't showing up on the Launch Base app at all.

How/were did you install the D-day files? If you got the vanilla version of YR & didn't even see the D-day loading screen or menu then you've install the files in the wrong place.

Launch Base is no longer supported within the community and dose not work with D-day or the latest versions of Ares.

I just left them in the unzipped folder and put that in the 'mod' folder Launchbase made since I had no idea it wasn't supported anymore.

I'm reinstalling everything, and it seems to me the installation order for the mod is;
1. Extract the folder 0.3RC1 to the RA2 directory (My YR doesn't install into a separate one)
2. Drop the ecachemd45.mix, expandmd45.mix & dday.pkt files into the RA2 directory.
3. Just open it with the included .BAT file

Is this broadly correct?

Yes, you also need to patch YR to v1.001 for Ares to work.

Got it working yesterday. Brilliant fun, though I've noticed that enemy AI seems a lot more active than any friendly computer players. Still 10/10 though.

D-Day "See You On The Beach" ****: An Invasion Ten Years In The Waiting D-Day is a project that has been in the works longer than some players have been playing Yuri's Revenge. Since the time that D-Day began to take shape back in 2002, The West has completed it's "War on terror", an African American was elected as POTUS, the Arab World rose up in revolt and Social media sites took over our lives. Indeed the D-Day mod has been in the works for a long time, but finally through the hard-work of it's…
