Last weekend the first beta test has been started on the new crossfire server using the current version of Crossfire 1.8

This test was only for the active developers of the mod. Normal players were not allowed to attend to minimize the risk of false data.

Eventhough not all systems have been finshed yet we did intent to test the gameplay, the server performance, they new key features and the stability of the server and the mod.Just like expected the mod ran very stable and with a fantastic performance. We had to experience some graphical problems with older graphic cards (with less than 256mb) but meanwhile a complete new compatibility mode has been written for Crossfire 1.8 and also been tested with success.

All reported problems could have been fixed within one week and now its time to get the final systems finished so we can start the 2nd beta test with the members of the Crossfire community.

Geeze, I started playing Freelancer waiting for this, and I 'quit' playing Freelancer waiting for this.

Hell I wonder if I still have the CD layin' around here somewhere.

Eh, good to hear I can start it up again some day...

i think the developers sentiments on that subject will be quite similar to other mods on this site,

"when will it be finished and released?"

"When it's finished."

Hold on tight guys, it sounds like a public beta might start soon.

Every time I visit MOD DB, I check up On Crossfire, to see if there is anything new on completion, or release dates but most often it is nothing more than continual complaints about the lack of Crossfire 1.8's completion.

As I can not vouch for everyone here, I will speak for myself when I say personally that waiting around for this MOD has been a tiresome affair at best. I understand completely the side of the modding team, (or if it is really only one guy working on it) and the lack of interest or boredom on his part. I understand the complaints of all players involved here who really just want to play a great mod.

What I am really trying to say is that many times I have seen you give estimations of release dates, or a month or year when it will most likely be finished, and everytime those dates come and go, and those years fly right on past. My point in closing is this, if there isnt going to be a MOD ver 1.8, just say it, so everyone can get on with their lives, and stop complaining to you about how long its taking.

We know you arent being paid, and we know your doing this in your spare time or whatever, but for GOD'S SAKE stop milking the dead and dried up old cow. If your not committed to making this MOD then stop advertising it like you are. Thats all I'm saying. You'll hear alot less complaining from ungreatful gamers, by suprising them instead of promising them.

if i wouldnt have interupted my work on this mod to take care of community business there wouldnt be much that you can play now

i only have 24 hours a day and i used them
Digital Anvil took more than 3 years to build a 700mb game with all their coders, modellers, writers and lvl designers
This mod is 4 times as big as the original game and way more detailed. Its been created just by a handfull of ppl in their freetime. And the only thing that is missing are a few systems.

Delaying the release was done not because we couldnt do our job.
The first day happend because by request of the players the 400mb update turned into a 2gb version with heavy graphical improvements. We just did what the players asked us to do and for that we will not take the blame.
The later delays mainly happend because of the situation inside the FL community where hackers took over the control over the formal biggest FL modding site and started to hack our sites.
Not just alone that I am the main modder of CF I also did run one of the biggest FL sites on the net which suddenly (together with other sites) got attacked. This problem had to get solved in order to prevent that the FL modding scene would die out.
That is reason for some of the later delays as the FL community developed badly in the past 2 years and it took much energy to prevent at least that all the FL sites got damaged or did fall into the hands of these hackers.

The latest delay is a matter that I take the blame for.
I lost the motivation to work on it since the modders and our community does not receive the neccessary support anymore. I can not take care of the stuff that happens in the FL community, run a multigaming site, teach modding and work on this mod. Just like i said my day only has 24 hours and help is rare.
