The Classic Doom 3 modification is a remake of the original Doom game, by id Software. The main emphesis is that of brining the older game up to date in a modern graphics engine. The project makes use of all of Doom 3's advanced
graphical features while retaining the feel and gameplay of the original game.

The project will only cover the shareware levels due to many reasons that include the following :

- We are bored of converting over peoples stuff and want to create something of our own.
- The mod started off as a fun way to learn how to mod for Doom 3, and we all feel we have learnt what we need to make our own project.
- A more minor reason is the legalities of remaking anything past the freely availible shareware episode.

Our latest build is version 1.3.1 which is the final version that we plan to release. This version is numbered 1.3.1 to reflect the fact that it has been tested to work with Doom 3 patch release 1.3.1, and thus works both with Doom 3 on steam and windows vista.

For more information please visit Flaming Sheep Softwares website that can be found at:

Cdoom.d3files.com

If you have any further questions about the project, feel free to register on our forums and ask anything related to the project.

We hope you enjoy the mod.

We have put together a new “final” release of our mod, Classic Doom 3 to satiate those who have recently bought Doom 3 via the steam download service, or those who wish to play the mod running Doom 3 patch 1.3.1. You can get the files from the mod page here at the moddb website.

When Doom 3 patch 1.3.1 was originally released, we did not update the code as it was not seen as a major update to the base Doom 3 game. Due to this, the past Flaming Sheep Software coder SnoopJedi released an update patch, 1.2, for Classic Doom 3 on his own accord, which gave compatibility with version 1.3.1 of Doom 3, but introduced a number of fatal bugs.

Over the past month, since the release of Doom 3 on the Steam network, a number of team members were contacted exponentially by players about errors with Classic Doom 3 1.1 when used with the Steam version of Doom 3. What transpired is that Classic Doom 3 1.1 did not work correctly due to the steam version of Doom 3 being fully patched to version 1.3.1.
Several of the past members of Flaming Sheep Software have come together to resolve these issues once and for all, and to tweak the mod further to improve the gaming experience.

Classic Doom 1.3.1 is a full mod release that has been fully tested as compatible under the following versions of Doom 3:

Steam Doom 3
This version should work without any updates as Doom 3 patch version 1.3.1 is included when purchased on steam. Simply download the zip or windows installation packages to play the mod.

Windows Doom 3
You are required to download Doom 3 patch 1.3.1 alongside our mod to enable it to work with a retail version of the game. The patch required can be downloaded from our host at the follow location:

Doom3.filefront.com

Linux Doom 3
As with the Windows version of Doom 3, you are required to download Doom 3 patch 1.3.1 for Linux operating system before installing Classic Doom 3 1.3.1. You can get the required patch from the following location:

Fileshack.com

Mac Doom 3
While it hasn't been tested due to not being able to find a tester who owns a mac, this release has been built for mac users as well. We hope the code works. It to like every other OS, requires the 1.3.1A patch which can be found at the following:

Aspyr.com

We would once again like to thank the community for their support of this project. Please continue the Classic Doom 3 experience with Last Man Standing Co-op, the official supported mod, which can be found here:

Lms.d3files.com

Finally I would personally like to thank SnoopJedi for starting the move to 1.3.1 with Classic Doom 3 1.2, Deadite4 for his code fixes and BHenderson for fixing some animations.

I could help you out.

you should have a cdoom folder in your doom 3 folder
C:\program files\doom 3\
steam C:\program files\valve\steamapps\common\doom3\

cdoom comes with a batch file to launch the mod as well, its simply like have a custom shortcut its in the cdoom folder, You can use it from there but I like placing it next to the doom3.exe to prevent any mistakes in it locating the doom3.exe

If and when you get the mod to load if you come acorss the gamex86.dll wrong version error, ensure you have Doom3 patched to version 1.3.1 (doom 3 steam version should not require this patch)
Go into your Doom 3 base folder (C:\program files\doom 3\base\)
and copy the gamex86.dll from there and replace the one in the cdoom folder (C:\program files\doom 3\cdoom)
keep a back up of there gamex86.dll I believe they used the source code of the gamex86.dll that was on doom3world.org years ago before the sdk was released, I believe they where making some of there own changes,
using the gamex86.dll from the doom 3 base folder should help enforce a launch but could result in health viles and armor shards not working correctly

If you get to this point and are playing happy days, But if health vilves aren't working try down grading to Doom 3 version 1.3 assuming you already ensured you where patched to 1.3.1 before hand

also I would only downgrade to play classic doom, But once done I'd update to version 1.3.1 again, after you install the patch you'd want to change that gamex86.dll
After any Doom 3 patch the gamex86.dll could and will conflict

additionally you could use the Doom Reborn install guide with pictures as a reference

the only difference that is talked about, is the folder name

update to question message, Yes, there is now a Doom 3 BFG Edition mod launcher tool that was released this month August 2014

Earthquake.fuzzylogicinc.com

There is are 5 example maps and mods with it to show people how they can port there Doom 3 work and how to create new stuff for BFG if im right in saying

I've patched my BFG Edition to test it out, But someone could start porting classic Doom 3 to it, But it would be much better if the classic doom team did a official release

bfg edition is not modder friendly :(

I wouldn't expect anything soon

Also I like how lol3r_86 mentioned that its a downgraded version :)

He's right, A lot of things where removed rather than improved like the particle lights off the plasma rifle I loved that touch in Doom 3 -.-

This mod is amazing, I loved it. Are there any plans to do the other episodes, or even doom 2 in this manner?

Fantastic Doom 3 mod, if there's any Doom 3 mod out there that will bring back the nostalgia of the old Doom game, this is the one to download.
