The Classic Doom 3 modification is a remake of the original Doom game, by id Software. The main emphasis is that of bringing the older game up to date in a modern graphics engine. The project makes use of all of Doom 3's advanced graphical features while retaining the feel and gameplay of the original game. The project will only cover the shareware levels due to many reasons that include the following : - We are bored of converting over peoples stuff and want to create something of our own. - The mod started off as a fun way to learn how to mod for Doom 3, and we all feel we have learnt what we need to make our own project. - A more minor reason is the legalities of remaking anything past the freely available shareware episode. Our latest build is version 1.3.1 which is the final version that we plan to release. This version is numbered 1.3.1 to reflect the fact that it has been tested to work with Doom 3 patch release 1.3.1, and thus works both with Doom 3 on steam and windows vista..
As a team, we have finally decided that it is time to close the project, and we want to do so with a bang. As per the previous news post, we have fixed all of the bugs that we were able to find. As a team, we have finally decided that it is time to close the project, and we want to do so with a bang. As per the previous news post, we have fixed all of the bugs that we were able to find. There are a handful of minor bugs remaining, however we feel that on the whole we have done everything we can to make this 1.1 release of Classic Doom 3 as complete as possible. Contained within this final update are many fixes and some nice new features that everyone should find useful.
Some of the new features include:
- Fully functional deathmatch support on all levels
- Improved weapon models
- Improved intro and outro sequences
- Lowered difficulty for game fairness
- Lots of balancing has been addressed
Overall the package contains so many fixes that we have lost track from what has actually been done from 1.0 to 1.1. It has been a long journey and a huge effort for the team to put this final package together and so on a personal level I would like to express my gratitude to everyone on the team who have made this release possible.
The file will be availible from our moddb web page shortly, for a list of mirrors please visit our main website at Cdoom.d3files.com , as more mirrors go live, they will be added to the list.
It has been almost 2 years since we started work on this project and we hope people will continue to enjoy playing the mod for many years to come
If anyone wishes to take up the torch and continue to develop the rest of the levels for episodes 2,3 and 4 of the original Doom, or even your favourite ones, the team will still answer any questions on our public forums. We hope that if enough people come together to continue our work, we will be able to put together a map pack in the future that includes all of the best maps for the mod that the fans have created. If any singular level is created to the high level of quality that the current maps have, we will publicise it on our website and encourage as many players of Classic Doom 3 to download it as possible.
As a project team, we have no future plans to work on the mod, or any future projects, however we will still be here to answer any questions that people have about our work.
Thank you for spending time playing Classic Doom 3, and please continue to enjoy our work.
