What is DZS? (For you DayZ players)

Hello, I'm Craig *Shakes hand with reader*

This is Dynamic Zombie Sandbox, a one of a kind mission for ArmA 2 (OA,CO,A2,A2 Free, and Take on Helicopters). It started as an idea of a full map zombie survival mission, much like DayZ, but this came before DayZ. I wanted something that was different every time, that you could port to any map, and provided tons of fun. This is what I came up with.

DZS has 36 parameters that the host can choose. These allow you near endless customization of your zombie experience. You can play in the day, the night, the dusk,with fog, with rain, with clear skies, or make it a surprise. You can start with weapons, without weapons, with/without maps, with your friends, in the middle of nowhere. You can find weapons in buildings, in cars, and in ammo boxes. Loot can be plentiful, or extremely scarce. The mission can have hundreds of cars, or a scant few. Zombies can sense you from miles away or can be fairly stupid. The only limit is your server, and you don't even need a dedicated.

This is an example of a few of the options available, and many more are on the way. There is no question on whether this will be in ArmA 3, it will be added ASAP in the community alpha. I have big plans to add much more features to make the experience even better and more customizable.

Installation? Easy. 1.5mb file goes into the MPmissions folder, or just join a server online. The file will be Downloaded automatically.

Overview of 1.0

After quite a long time, I finally have 1.0 ready for release. This is the most complete, stable version of the mission that I have. It also most fulfills what I wanted to put into this mission back in Version .75. Many new features have been added and many, many fixes have been made. Also, I have already started work on 1.05.

Making the mission more stable was one of the largest goals of 1.0. It still won't last forever on dedi, but it will last longer. Further improvements are in my head and will be added in 1.05.

  • Fixed lag issues from .95
  • Weapons in buildings, a little like DayZ
  • Local hosts couldn't use the logistic features
  • GPS would put markers on other players

1. A2 version hasn't changed much, but I did add make it so weapons would spawn in vehicles, and a few bugfixes. The CO version is the main one I work on, and A2 lacks a lot of the scripting features of OA and CO, which makes it much harder to port the latest version over to it.

2. If you spawn with a weapon but cannot shoot, just press F.

Indeed, released far before DayZ. DayZ included a lot of the elements from this mission, but obviously is much different, as it is a mod, and this is a mission. Rocket is a fan of the mod, he even has recommended it to the people who don't like the style of DayZ. And we have exchanged emails on the subject also.

Yeah, already have CO.
Just not many servers for the standard arma 2 players, I Kind of like helping out the new players, most of the arma 2 standard servers are hosted in russia, and a lot of players are in more European territories.
So, I host a regular arma 2 server once in awhile.

It seems I have fixed it, more or less. The weapons still don't spawn in vehicles, but if you redownload the A2 version, it should work now for you.

There are exactly 3 mods for Arma 2 I find interesting. Chernarus Life, DayZ and Zombie Sandbox. Time to re-buy arrowhead and give the premium version of these a shot.

First off, I Love the mod, it's amazing I have so much fun with it, but I was wondering, is it the mod that disables saving? Some of us don't want to run a dedicated server 24/7 and play with a small group of friends and it would be easier to save game state and come back to it.

Second, I was wondering if it was documented somewhere more on what the options do, some are pretty self explanitory but I'd really like to have others explained more in depth please!

Also, small additive, I've noticed the "Spawn next to allies" thing doesn't work as well? In the beginning we spawn next to each other but if someone dies they spawn all the way back where we began, is this intended?

ALSO, I Got a lot of these, kind of playing as we speak, the "Functionary" character? Doesn't seem to get bandages, he wouldn't spawn with any, can you look into that? Thank You!

It is indeed intended. So if people want to go their own ways and fight against each other, then they don't have to respawn next to their possible enemies.

But I could make such a feature that when you respawn you start next to another player.

But also just a notion of the spawning of before. Someone could easily just camp the spawn location than stacking up on bandages killing people. Once again, not really a concern for me as wanting to be able to save is because I just play on a server with close friends/family.

Also, parameter suggestions:
1.) Respawn with party (upon death, respawn with party)
2.) Upon death, all items disappear.

These two parameters work together. It would be nice to be able to respawn with the party, but to lose all of what you had as punishment.

I'm not sure if you knew, this mission is map independent. Just change .chernarus.pbo to any other map name, like .takistan.pbo and it will adapt to that new map. Any map works.

Hey I really like your mission although me and my friends are having trouble hosting a game that we can play. Every time one of us hosts the game when the others try to join they always lose connection. It cant be our Internet because we have hosted other kinds of games before and we have all been able to play together. I've realised that whenever I host this mission the host gets a huge amount of desync preventing the rest of use from joining. Do you have any ideas on how to fix it?

forget what i said about how to edit it. i love the update and the whole DZS its alot less stressfull than Day Z. i found i bug were at small maps like Utes, Zargabad, or the Proving Grounds the weapons cache task spawns off the map. that is like the only problem with the DZS now. just tought i should bring it to your atention.

But one question: I've looked all over, and have found no answer. This mod says it can be used with any map, but I fail to see the mission in the mission selection for maps like Panthera and Namalsk. Any helpful tips on how to get it working?

I have a small problem, it's usually always a buzzkill when it happens and my friend and I usually just stop playing till the next day passes by. First of all I don't want to sound demanding, but the issue always makes me think twice before we decide to play due that the problem is always bound to happen. Whenever I host a server, whether it's LAN or Online, I tend to lagg down to 20 fps, but when I join my friends server I bump up to 40 or even 60. Also, when I join big servers online, I get only 16 FPS so i'm always avoiding going into big parties. But when my friend and I play together, whether or not it's either server, we usually get "lost connection" and crash moments after. If I host it and he joins, it happens to him, but when it's his server, it happens to me. I have the free version that's on steam because I just don't see myself spending 30 bucks on a game that really doesn't feel well polished. I'm not sure if it's only the free version that has this issue or if it's only my friend and I. I have also hosted servers online with 8 to 30 people and they all end up getting the same result, they get "lost connection." I really hope it gets resolved on the next update but until then, I guess i'll stick to playing by myself on LAN. Your mod/mission is just simply awesome, but with these little problems fixed I can easily see myself playing FOREVER. :D

Whenever I start a server, I can see the weapon spawns etc. but my friend/other players on the server can't, so they are forced to find a weapon box for ammo... (And by weapon spawns I mean the dropped gear that spawns in DayZ, except they are only weapons and ammo... I can see them but other people can't) It is like only the host of a server can see the loot and unless you are teaming up with the host, you can't find weapons that spawn on the ground... I found out that if I pick up the weapon that someone wants and places it back down they can see it. That's the only way I have found to let other people get weapons.

And also when I create a server when I die everyone on the server dies (happens sometimes). There is also another problem I encounter. Sometimes when I set the starting time to 1200 hours, it is midday for me, but midnight for everyone else...

That's one of the errors with the ArmA 2 version, it just doesn't have the advanced scripting commands available in the Combined Operations version of ArmA.

Im running ARMA 2 Free version and every time I start a gmae it reads "craigscripts/scripts/addcarammo.sqf not found" or something along those lines. Ive tried re-installing, re-downloading, etc. All of my friends can play this mod on ARMA 2 Free but me. Please help me.
