88 Flak: Final Cut - A 1.27 Beta Video

88 Flak is a mod for Freelancer which focuses on binging a drastic change in gameplay without adding any non-Freelancer ships, factions, or systems; there are a few new systems, however the main game is concentrated around the normal systems. 88 Flak has been in the works since January 21, 2005, and continues to be worked on today.

The main goal of the mod is to provide the most intense combat possible while keeping everything at an even, balanced level. For instance, instead of linear balancing for ships, Flak adopts a more Team-Fortress style balancing where nothing is better, just different. For instance, while a Light Fighter is very fast, it is limited in firepower and defense capability. A Very Heavy Fighter will be very slow with horrid turning, yet will sport impressive firepower and Long-range Sniper-cannons (that can shoot up to 8Km away at 4Km/sec). A Heavy Fighter would fall somewhere in-between the two, etc.
And it only starts there; EVERY ship in the original Freelancer, including nearly every Station (30 of 'em) and Weapons Platform (8 of 'em), can be flown, making for a total of 104 pilotable, balanced craft, from the original game (except the Serafina Freighter, by Asmo, which was added; it fits right in).
Flak's most robust change to the Freelancer formula is the AI, and that AI NPC ships are capable of performing most tasks that players themselves are capable of; this includes, but is not limited to, AI travelling to anywhere in a system to perform anything from trade to station raids, hiring themselves out to players or other NPCs as wingmen, dropping a fight to pursue a fleeing ship, using counter-measures to stop missiles, and using afterburners and strafing much like a real player might use. Flak's AI is hailed as the most advanced AI ever seen in a Freelancer mod, and will thrill even the most hardened PvP combatant.
88 Flak also totes features such as, purchasable stations (which come with private militia wingmen that shoot at hostile NPCs (and players)), and full customizability via a Freelancer Mods Manager script with configurable client-side and server-side options.
88 Flak is finally the first mod to feature "bot" squads for players who don't have many friends to fly with.
More information and updates can be found at the 88 Flak Site and the 88 Flak Forums.
88 Flak is also part of the developing Farscape Studios, consisting of the Phoenix RPG Mod as well as a few other projects still in development.
At the moment, Flak still a growing community, with most players actively involved with the project itself; however, anyone from lone players to full clans are welcome to either join in the fun on the 24/7 server or get active in the project's development.

Heya folks, figured I'd give a heads up about a new utility brought to you by none other than M0tah; this time, it's a gizmo that will turn any player on the server into an AI Companion Bot. Friends don't want to play? Turn them into an NPC!

As you can see, it's pretty simple to use, as it's as easy as picking a bot number and clicking "generate." Using Endeavor, my storage character, as a test subject, I was then able to fly with it (and other characters) as my wingmen.

The conversion itself is pretty straight. Ship, guns, other equipment, cargo, and rank are all copied to the NPC version of the character. Currently, names are not supported (it's just the ship name for now), however this may be implemented in the future (I've bugged M0tah about this forever though, so he deserves a break =P).
This will be first featured in RC105, when it is released, so make sure you watch the beta topic for your chance to shoot (or command) an NPC of yourself.

Please note, 88 Flak 1.26 is now considered obsolete to the newer 1.27 betas. 1.26 has some stability issues, and 1.27 has so many improvements that I'd...

88 FLAK made page news go take a look
Already done - the newer 1.27 betas are packaged in the ".zip.flmod" format, which is what Freelancer Mod Manager uses to unpack standard FL mods. Everything you need (including Freelancer Mod Manager if you don't have it) may be found here: Memes.no
could u do me a favour and put a normal zip file download. i cant open rar files. thanks.
Just download winrar its not difficult and will save you a ton of trouble with the people who won't convert it.
Just figured I'd do a quick comment post. Although the server has been a little dead recently, Flak's players are still regulars at the forums and we'd love to see some new faces. Development is picking up again as the latest beta nears release (RC115), so be sure to check out the fourms (near the top of this page)!
It works with FLMM
Does this work with FLMM? Or is it a standalone mod?
Thanks in advance.

I'd just like to say (being an inactive member and all) that the factions on flak are always recruiting. This can be one of the best ways to figure out how to fly/fight in Flak's vastly superior space-thingy.
Yes i have both versions, but i dont have the internet on my gameing computer and this one doesnt like freelancer. I tried what you said in the read me with the slocal thing, but it said sortcut does not exsit, improper file name.
