88 Flak is a fast-paced combat mod for the 3D action game Freelancer by Digital Anvil. It aims to bring quick and brutal arena-like combat to Freelancer with Unreal Tournament 2004 style speed and years of refined Team Fortress inspired class balancing. In addition, it aims to expand the gameplay experience with numerous new features, including docking on player Battleships (use teammates as mobile bases), purchasable stations (private bases that shoot at hostile NPCs and players), hiring AI wingmen, dynamic AI routines (88 Flak's AI is hailed to be the best in Freelancer), ability to script story missions in multiplayer (extremely beta), AI Bots (persistent NPCs with their own reputations and loadouts), and full customization via a Freelancer Mods Manager script with configurable client-side and server-side options such as advanced graphics/audio and more.

Hey Fox, this looks fantastic dude. Question: How much effect does this have upon FPS?

Depending on your card, a pretty sizable amount. It drops most scenes on my Geforce 6600 from 60FPS to ~45FPS. However, I have a pretty dated machine, and the effect itself is still a work-in-progress; there is more than likely some optimizations that can be done (I haven't looked at the code much though).

Also, please note that Honken was using AA and some other graphics card applied settings that are not part of Freelancer or these effects. While these are fairly universal settings (I can even set such things on my dated card), it should be noted that your experience may very. ;)

Ahh cool! How many of your players use the ENB series? How many of them are unable to utilize it due to framerate loss associated with outdated PC's?

In general this game looks better on older systems in my opinion. I have my current vista and my old computer XP which i have no idea on tower style because its gotten lots of new parts just cant run on internet and ram is like 512mb i think. Freelancer just looks better on old PC's.

Description

A screenshot of Post-Process V2 in action, courtesy of Honken. PPv2 was custom-written by Honken with help from the ENBSeries community, and gives a crisp, metallic look to the game.

The older PPv1, which is much more vibrant, is still selectable as post-processing option. Both versions of the post-processing will remain supported, as many users prefer either one over the other.
