It gets tiresome after a while. The (insanely) fast imp projectiles make dodging them in close spaces absurdly hard. And close spaces seems to be the favourite kind of rooms this wad has to offer.
I came here with a solid expectation. I did not quite expect the Back To Saturn X I/II kind of gameplay, but something solid (believe me or not, I am a good player).
And while I like the new weapons and monsters the gameplay just gets very tiresome after a while... spam, spam, spam.
It's not a bad wad, apart from gameplay it does have some interesting things to offer. But gameplay is the most important part and argueably it is broken and repetitive. With hardly any room to explore or navigate through.
This mod has come a far way. Is it perfect? No, but it does its thing very well.
I was there the first hour when the mod was released and really liked how it put a twist on old maps with a new difficulty. OFten I was criticising this mod for bein too ill-polished.
But that was a long time ago and I think all the additions, ranging from more difficult monsters to more weapons really improve the gameplay as a whole and is just much more fun.
This such a brilliant mod. False Dawn would really deserve much more recognition. I have only played for a couple of hours but so far I have had a couple of great moments and the quality is extremely high.
You don't see many mods like this and it clearly surpassess the already very good original. I've seen enough to give this a 10/10.
Amazing mod for portal and unlike mods like Portal Prelude this is actually about using your brain and not just a test of your reflexes...

I must say that only few mod bring it so far and even less keep being creative for such a long time.
This mod and the people behind it deserve my respect.
Sure, go on and hate my rating and me but I couldn't enjoy this mod because it was anything like Portal.
After fisnishing Portal + advanced chambers in no time I was looking for more difficult challenges but Prelude is just about knowing the maps and do some tricks as fast and as timed as possible.
Thinking with Portals? Well, kinda
Thinking with the map layout? Certainly yes
Being annoyed by all kind of death traps comming closer? yeah
It's just lame that the developer had to add challenge by making the game just less comfortable instead of making challenge based on logic.
I see this mod is pretty popular but maybe it's just because people like try (save) and error (load) instead of actually using their brain how to solve difficult puzzles. Be sure to hate my review because it's the truth!
A blast from the past!
Difficult as hell (pun intended), very well crafted levels and a certainly evil soundtrack make this mod one of the best old school experiences ever.
I wish original Quake was like this.
And nobody will ever forget fighting Him.
