Hey, this seems like an interesting game, I was brought here by your post at SpaceSimCentral and I really like the idea of mixing X3 and Freelancer, though those games seem pretty similar as it stands in my opinion haha

I just had a few questions to ask and I hope you do not take them as an attack on your game, just simply wondering about the direction you are planning to take with the game:

1. Now that there are many sandbox-esque sci-fi games coming out such as Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen, to make the front runners, in which direction are you planning on taking this game's gameplay that will differentiate it from the rest of the games coming out in the next year or so?

2. You talk about the game being a blend of X3 and Freelancer, could you possibly expand on what exactly it is you are, and aren't, taking from the games that would help to expand your game into something greater?

3. Are there any gameplay aspects that are you really focusing on, whether initially or in general, that you hope to make the keystone feature of your project?

Thanks in advance and I will be keeping a close eye on this game to see how things progress! I have high hopes for a very cool game :)

I seem to be having some trouble getting this demo to work... I just downloaded it and when I try to run the .jar file (seems to be the only executable file in the folder when it's unpacked) I get a error saying "Could not find the main class: Simulation. Program will exit." and then it, well, exits on me. A solution or a troubleshoot would be very helpful :) I'm very excited to try this game out!

It was Natural Selection. It was a mod for Half Life, released a while back with basically the same premises as NS2, just with lower graphics and a lot of limitations gameplay-wise. Still probably the most innovative game of its time back then! If you have Half Life, I suggest you give it a try just to see what I mean :)

Though I must say that game did give me motion sickness when I was the aliens.. Haha

I'm not convinced to try it out just yet... I've seen and played a lot of other browser-based games and did not like them one bit.

How heavily-based will this game be on Pay-to-Win? I have always found that having the limit on how many times you can do things until you "recharge energy" was frustrating, especially when the game constants hints that you can always just go buy special coins that you can use to purchase more energy immediately....

I think he means what percentage of this game's development is complete so far. :) And I wish to ask the same thing, since this looks absolutely amazing and beautiful!

I was wondering how hunting would work? Would you get tools and then get the necessary resources to make spears (wood and rock, maybe string?) and such? Or will it be a more simplified system?

Oh I forgot to update you on that, but it seems that after waiting a VERY long time, the game eventually opens up. Along with the other copies of the program that I had opened in my fit of semi-rage. :P

Also, when will the encyclopedia be filled out more? I am having trouble figuring out how to complete objectives and also expand my colonies...

Okay, sorry for the unnecessary scare.. Also, to be specific, my antivirus seems to think that the uninstall.exe is a trojan, if that helps you figure out why it seems to be doing that to me haha

But then again, if it's just me I don't see any reason to fix it :P

I can't seem to be able to do anything with the mining site, which is stuck in transition. Also, it seems that Far Colony refuses to start up most of time, showing no error sign, and the program starting up in the task manager, but nothing visually happening..

I seem to constantly get a trojan virus alert when I install this... I'm pretty sure this is a false positive since no one else has brought this problem up, but I'm worried this might dissuade other people from trying this game out if they get this error...

Hey Aggro! I haven't disappeared just yet! :)

This is going off of Terak's point a bit, but I think with the post-day/pre-day interface should be a bit more revised. Trying to read though everything is a bit of a headache, especially having to scroll through events you might not be interested in.

What I thought would be nice (if possible that is) is if you divided the screen in half, with the left screen giving bars for each skill of a fighter and a smaller subbar under each skill bar that gives a visual description of what went up and what went down. You can make it so that you can choose your different fighters to see what happened to each fighter with less scrolling.

On the right side of the screen you can have all the events, which you can even divide up into Gym events, tournament events, etc.

It's mainly just my opinion on what would make what's probably a small part of the game a bit more user friendly, but I always found it frustrating having the scroll up and down every time I went to the next day.

Keep up the awesome work! I can't wait to be able to play the finished product :)

I haven't really read too much of this game yet, but I'm going to assume from the video of the planetary battle that you destroyed ships are salvageable as resources? And maybe even to steal opposing player's technology? :P

By the video and images itself I am very VERY intrigued. Hopefully my laptop can handle it. haha

Also my first impression was that of a From Dust-esque game. That game disappointed me, I have a feeling this might not. Keep going friend!

The hardest thing I find with trying to even improve core stats is that there are so many training methods and so many stats to try to raise. It definitely makes sense that you are trying to force players to chose a style for their gyms (and it kind of is an unconscious decision most players make, though this makes it very favorable to try and not create a super fighter from day one)

For example, I have a boxing gym as of right now and my gym focuses on punches, and my training regiment has lvl 0 training equipment all around except for the swerve bag, which I had upgraded to lvl 3. Raised Head Movement, Reaction and Dodge very quickly, though everything else dropped like a rock.. ^_^;; But that's my fault haha

I just downloaded the 1.3 update, I'll let you know of any quirks/bugs/glitches I find as I find them :)

I sense Escape Velocity influences within my midst... :D

You are awesome for making a game like this! I was a HUGE fan of EV and when they stopped making the series I was absolutely devastated! You have brought me hope into enjoying a game just like it, I hope you'll keep on this awesome path!

What are your intentions in respect to features in the game?

xinsavior Mar 8 2012, 10:05am replied:

Thanks for the reply! I really hope I don't discourage you, because I really think this is an awesome game concept and I do understand that this game is still in development I just have a tendency to say things as it is, and I think it will help you more if I don't try to butter it up with nice words even though I would LOVE to compliment this game left and right haha

I think the biggest problem I'm having is raising the gym and manager's reputation to get better students as well as raising my manager's overall training skill. I guess I haven't been patient enough to really get far into it, but it feels like everything I'm doing to train my fighters so far comes up with no fruits of labor (if that makes any sense..)

I think the cost for upgrading equipment is just fine and the cost of training fighters isn't horrible either. I think the biggest iffy thing is that leveling up a stat even by one point is really, REALLY difficult. Realistic to say the least, but not when you train on heavy bags for two months straight with no rest and don't get a single stat up for cross, body punching, or jab.

... or maybe it's because I'm NOT resting... huh. I think I'm making my fighters cry. :P

I really like the idea behind this game, but it feels like everything I do makes no real impact on my fighter... I still don't understand what the increased stats numbers mean when my fighter trains, since it doesn't change the overall stats of my fighter.. Maybe it is supposed to be a sub number that once it reaches like 100 or something it'll raise the overall stat by 1, but it just really confuses me at this point :(

Another iffy thing was the balance between points lost and gained in training. I'll be using the punching bags and gain +9 on my punches, but then lose -7 on my kicks! I understand the need for this to keep people from being able to just make a perfect fighter easily, but the balance between them seems so close.. Unless by raising my training skills on my manager will the negatives go down and the positives go up?

I'm sorry for the long post, you didn't have a forum and I was just really curious about these because it is a great game. Please, keep on working on it, I love what you have!
