Amnesia: Chromanin [RELEASED]

Mod review

A pretty good mod. Nothing spectacular, but certainly an enjoyable ride that had it's share of interesting moments, and a good storyline. I do wish it were a bit scarier though. Every time it looked like the tension was about to ramp up, nothing ever really came of it. i don't think there was a single truly terrifying moment in the entire mod.

Other than that, well done.

The Cage

Mod review

This mod is one that's hard to give a definitive review of for a couple of reasons. It's very short, (like, only 10-15 minutes) and is very different from any other mod I've ever played.

However, it was fantastic for what it was. The story deals with a subject that impacts many people, and tells a message that is very true and very important. There were also of creative gameplay elements that I found pretty cool (First time I ever cleaned in Amnesia:))

Only criticism would be that many models (mostly tables) were missing. (I know an updated version was released yesterday, so hopefully that fixed the issue)

There really isn't that much else to talk about. This is one of those mods that deserves to be played simply for the experience. Forget that it's Amnesia an just try it. Especially for those going through tough times, the message here could be very beneficial.

Lost The Lights

Mod review

An excellent mod. It does have some annoyingly cheap scares, but the atmosphere is solid overall, and there are still several quite creepy, frightening moments.

There is also plenty of custom content including new sounds, music, and even Penumbra models, as well as some pretty creative puzzles and sequences that kept me engaged over its lengthy 5 hours.

Story was pretty good, and although the terrible grammar did detract slightly, the plot was interesting, and the ending was particularly good.

This mod is not perfect, but still highly enjoyable, with immersive, well paced gameplay, a solid story, and an excellent overall scare factor (with the exception of the occasional blatantly cheap jumpscare). Definitely recommended.

Obscurity

Mod review

A masterpiece. This is one of those mods that nails every single element. Story was interesting, unique, with an awesome cinematic intro and conclusion. The voice acting and notes were all excellent, the level desgin and puzzles were also top notch. Scares and monster encounters are perfectly placed and executed, not cheap or overused and the atmosphere kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I do wish it could have been a bit longer, (about 1.5-2 hours), but I only say that because the quality was so high and I want more!!! The actual length of the mod is very serviceable considering the story that was being told. This is certainly a fantastic mod overall and a must play for Amnesia fans.

Amnesia: The Second Dimension

Mod review

A fantastic mod that really shows off what creativity, and talent can create. It's an Amnesia experience unlike any other for more reasons than one.

It did get extremely frustrating in the second half, but I still found the incredible innovation, creativity, and the great story outweighed those angry moments. I highly recommend people to play this one, or at least give it a try, especially if you're a fan of platformers.

Gameplay: 7/10 (innovative, but very frustrating at times!)

An excellent mod. Considering that this was the first attempt at modding by this developer, I'm pretty impressed, and wasn't expecting something nearly this good.

The story is the best element of this mod. It's detailed, interesting, and unique, and it kept me hooked all the way through. It also had pretty good voice acting as well as plenty of notes and flashback scenes which I liked. There are also custom monsters, as well as some really good new music. Another thing that's interesting about this mod is that it can actually be played through multiple times, as doing things differently will result in a different ending (as apposed to most stories where the ending is simply based on one decision made at the end.)

There are a few criticisms I do think need mentioning though. First one is the bugs. Overall there weren't too many, but I did have to completely restart at one pint because an item wouldn't spawn. Also, it wasn't all that scary other than some of the monster moments, and there weren't a ton of them. Not that I'd rather monster spam, but I did feel that some sections could have been taken advantage of a bit more in terms of building tension. It was solid in the beginning, but fell off a bit down the stretch.

Despite those things, I'm still very impressed with this mod and I highly encourage the developer to make another, as this mod clearly shows that he has the potential to make something truly great.

Nepsis

Mod review

Yes, it's short, and the plot makes almost no sense, but there were still some likable elements of this mod. It has many very good, creative sequences and puzzles which hold it up, and overall, it manages to be an enjoyable experience.

Poisonous

Mod review

The first Amnesia mod I ever played, and even to this day, it stands out as a solid one.

It's not the type of mod that was exceptional in any one element, but really did everything well. Story was solid, with good voice acting (the female voice actor at least, not a huge fan of the male one) and had a decent length and a respectable ending. Puzzles were unique, but not too hard. In fact there's even a timer for one of the harder puzzles that gives you a hint if you get stuck for too long, which was a really cool feature. It also has some decent scares, and one especially good monster encounter.

Overall I would say that this mod did a good job on pretty much every level and I have no major complaints. However, it wasn't particularly amazing either and thus, I leave the rating at an 8. It's enjoyable, and I certainly would recommend it to others, but there are better stories out there.

In Lucy's Eyes

Mod review may contain spoilers

This really was a significant improvement from Tenebris Lake. I really enjoyed all the new features, and the fact that most of my complaints from Tenebris lake were addressed in this one.

First of all, the story is much better. Instead of a effortless and boring plot, this one is actually quite interesting and unique. It's not the most detailed of stories (a few more notes would have been nice!), and the ending still leaves a few unanswered questions, but it's a significant improvement overall from TL. Voice acting is also much better and the directions were much more clear (never got lost). I'm also quite glad they removed the stupid checkpoint save system.

Fantastic level desgin, custom audio and new light sources made for a fantastic atmosphere with some straight up terrifying moments. This mod also has some of the scariest monsters I've ever seen in Amnesia and they were used incredibly well. All the encounters were perfectly placed, the monster's designs were excellent, and I truly never felt safe knowing those things could show up at any moment. Overall it may not be quite as scary as TL, but in terms of scare factor, it's definitely one of the best.

My one major problem would be the launch day bugs. Just getting this thing to run was a nightmare, an even once I got in, I encountered lag (first map in particular) and some of the custom entities missing. I also had to reload an old save once because I died, and my respawn put me in a position where it was literally impossible to continue forward.

If it weren't for the bugs I experienced, this probably would be a full 10/10 as it was an excellent mod that is far better than TL, which is saying a lot because I really liked TL despite many of it's flaws.

It's no Final Revelations, but it's still one of the best Amnesia mods to have come out in a while. Really loved all the creativity and interesting mechanics. Wasn't a huge fan of the ending and I did encounter a few bugs, but this is still a very good mod that is worth playing, especially if, like me, you are a fan of the other mods made by this developer.
