Now that that's out of the way, I'll tell you why.
Supergiant Games did all of their own funding, marketing etc. They only went through WB to get them onto different platforms. The same kind of thing applies to Magicka (though Paradox took up the funding after Magicka was initially funded out of the pockets of its own developers). Funding, development, marketing - that's the key to being indie; especially the funding. Hell, you could technically call Valve the publisher for some of these, since they're published on Steam.

ah right, and just so you know, progress IS getting done, they're just being very careful about releasing media, particularly when it comes to art direction or game design decisions. updates on the technical side just happen to be the 'safest'.

hmm, really only it's the helmet that seems derivative of halo. the first thing that comes to mind when you see those helmets is halo. and yet, if you look at them side-by-side there are actually plenty of differences.

Wow, that wallpaper is amazing, just how close you've managed to make it to the Team7 photo, using your own actual models. That really is great quality.
I've gotta say I *like* the clean look. I thought it was part of your aesthetic style, with your white, almost plastic, player characters for instance, or your sorta 'snow' blue-white colour scheme. I think it's actually sorta refreshing.

I can't help but think you're stating the obvious here and not too eloquently, and that's 'locales' by the way (just a fancy way to say 'location'); locals would be the local population.
I do like the names you've got though: Estari, Niirae.
But... not so much Keith Raven or United Republic of Species, though. Yes, the little details are important to me.
So, apart from your, uh, amateurish presentation... great work. Everything looks great. Looking forward to seeing everything come together. Are you all (your studio) working locally (ie. in a physical studio), or over the internet, or a bit of both?
How's the FPS-RPG thing going to come into play? Deus-Ex style? Fallout 3 style?
hmm, I don't get the sense that the arms are actually *gripping* the rifle. how do i explain this... when the rifle recoils, it comes up (recoils) and then down with the same speed and motion (albeit reversed). i think the 'returning' animation should be more forced and smooth, so that the arms appear to be moving the rifle back into position, rather than 'un-recoiling' as it were.
I have to say I'm more fond of Pure Concept 2.
That's not to say, however, that I'm not fond of this one; imagining a metallic look, and I think the colours look great.

I'm not a huge fan of the colouring of the headpiece (I probably dislike most how the helmet doesn't contrast very well with her skin tone and (I assume that's her hair) her pony-tail), I guess I think the silver-blue colour would be better for it, because it just seems like the helmet is an odd chunk of bronze-orange, since the rest of the suit doesn't have any orange highlights, or maybe you could just give the helmet some silver-blue highlights;
And she looks like she has uh, fishlips, or they're pouty, or something; I think the lips should look more feminine, maybe even with a very slight conceited smirk - although you might already have these details down and it's hard to tell based on the resolution of the image.
Other than that though, it's perfect.
i agree, making those toggleable would be good. so that many people could play as naruto and yet not look all the same. might hurt the visual consistency though.

Yeah that's what I thought as well. Even the opening/ending to the video is similar to the opening/ending of cloverfield.

yeah lol i had the *exact* same thought. but they're using the hl2 stock sounds, i'm pretty sure. they'll probably replace them.

With the resources, I assume you only mine Basic Resources from the earth, while you refine those (through a building) into Refined Resources, and further refine those (through another building) into Exotic Resources. Is that right? If so, can you go backwards, ie. recycling?

We've gotten a number of suggestions on how to improve the UI of the mod(i.e. making it easier to read off the health/energy level)
I don't think numbers would fit the theme of ballmen, imho.
I was thinking there should be a visual indicator showing how much energy a weapon will use (perhaps just a line dividing up the energy bar).
Also, something to show when your health or energy bars are full (perhaps just 'fill in' the health/energy icons).
And I noticed that when I respawned I'd start off with less than full energy; since it happens every time, I'm assuming that's intentional. How much energy do you start off with when you spawn?

The similarities I see (between peggle and crystalline) are the bright christmas-tree decoration colours and lights.
DX Ball 2 was another one, it was a breakout/arkanoid clone that had a nice visual style, kinda like flame in the reflection on the surface of a lake at midnight. (Well, that sounded kinda...) At least.. I remember that it did. Or maybe it was just its successor? They had nice "particle effects", iirc. I don't know...

Because they'd have a different feel, I think. There'd be more an air of cooperation and teamwork with the NPC colossus, but the same with a dash of competitiveness and aggression with the player-controlled colossus. Well, that's my theory..

anyway, the stealth that's been talked about in the description is sort of the blending-in stealth, or ambiguity (hide a tree in a forest, that kinda jazz) which sounds awesome.. (assassin's quest?)
..but will there also be more traditional stealth involving hiding from view, or in darkness? (splinter cell, thief..)
also, will there be sniper rifles? kinda doesn't fit with the crowd-blending theme. garrotes/piano wire for up-close?
are there going to be different game modes? well, i think you -should- only start with one, then release it in updates. judging from the description it sounds like an 'elimination' sort of game.
but i think it'd be nice to have like a VIP assassination, with teams. i can just imagine a procession or a parade or a speech, with the VIP in the center, npc security with the vip, hidden (players) security blended in with the crowds, but so are the assassins. (actually, wasn't there a recent movie with this premise?)
what kind of tricks or mechanics will you have at your disposal, to retain stealth/ambiguity as you make the kill?

However, someone's making a mod for the Source engine called One Must Fall: Destiny (and it's going to be 2.5D rather than 3D like battlegrounds was.) Looks promising, or at least I'm hopeful.

Heh. That's kinda amusing. Battlegrounds was more of a 'future' fighter, rather than a 'modern' one, is how I would put it.
