I am from Malaysia, just want to say hi to everybody in this group. I didn't mean by spam or what.
I am curious to understand something here in regards to the United States's military in war; what do you Boys fight for besides your country's freedom? Do you do it for heroic reasons, ethnocentric reasons, territorial expansion, just to kill people for their material or just for the heck of it? I keep hearing that all of these factors fall into play from my American friends. They say that all of it contributes. If that is true, it's kind of rude to kill others for their resources if they have not done it likewise in the first place. Not saying that is the main goal here, but if this IS the primary situation at hand, I find it to be cruel and unfair. No offense to anything. But still, perhaps one person here could answer my question in professional detail?
Lot more complicated than that.
Part of the reason soldiers sign up and go out there to fight and die is because their elected leaders have ordered them to do so. In our system, the civilian government has control over the Military, and by following the government's order, the soldiers are in part fighting for the U.S. rights and freedoms.
It's an act of patriotism to obey the civilian leadership in office. The government serves the people, and the military, by serving the government, also serves the people. The majority vote the leadership into office, and that office has tools such as the military to discharge their duties in our best interests.
If the government does things that the people does not want nor supports, we can have the elected officials responsible impeached and removed from office.
As for killing others for resources, we don't need too. U.S. has far more oil reserves than the Middle East, also leader in production of natural gas and have a great coal industry. That and more, we are excellent at innovation and recycling as well.
In defense of those who would fight to procure more resources, consider for a moment, eventually that's what humanity will end up doing if we don't find more efficient energy alternatives soon. Where do you think the Energy Crisis worry came about?
Ah....okay, I see. I was eager to know. But man, it's just that it seems like there can be other ways of finding alternative for resource gathering. Surely it could take something other than killing. I wish so.
In the current world we live, things are done in ways that we all wish weren't so.
Sadly, all governments and people's are guilty of this. But if you let that get in the way of love for your people or nation, than none of us would have any reason to be patriotic.
So instead, one should focus on what good is done, and look for ways to help their people and nation make better choices. Not through hatred or contempt, but through simple love and exceptional fortitude.
