(OBSOLETED) A Faceposer phoneme extractor that functions on Windows Vista and 7 (and provides better results than under XP) for Source 2007 and 2009.
Download the 1.3 here!
1.2 fixes an oversight that allows extraction to continue even if the phoneme map file is missing. Remember to extract it from the ZIP!
1.1 is exactly the same as the last one, save for a new message box that prompts you to change your speech recognition language if it is not UK English. I don't know why this is needed, but it fixes the gibberish phonemes people were getting!
To install, extract the contents of the zip file to the bin\phonemeextractors\ folder of the SDK or game you are working with. You will overwrite an existing DLL. Example paths:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\ACCCOUNT NAME\sourcesdk\bin\source2007\bin\phonemeextractors\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\bin\phonemeextractors\
(NOT \left 4 dead\left4dead\bin\!)
KEEP A BACKUP HANDY. Every time you run the SDK Launcher (or in the case of L4D1/2 receive an update) the custom DLL will be replaced with Valve's original, and you'll have to put it back in place manually.
The easiest way to run Faceposer without using Valve's SDK launcher is with the Source SDK Windows Gadget. You'll probably find that Faceposer crashes if you try to run it directly, since it's very particular about its working directory.

Doesn't work for me on Windows 7 x64. It keeps telling me to change the Speech Recognition language to English UK. I have done this.
Does it also say "Could not open phoneme translation file"? That the extractor continues on after that is an oversight on my part.
(Fixed in 1.2)
Oh! it work for me :D .
It just keeps telling me that I need to change my Speech Recognition language to English UK. I've done that. I extracted everything correctly.
I keep receiving the "change speech recognition language" error. After pressing OK, all I end up with are <sil> phonemes.
This thing doesn't work, I get the message that there are missing phonemes, and that they're logged to my desktop, and then just a bunch of silence phonemes. The log contains "
& 0 ! "
I'm having the same issue with the "change speech recognition language" error. I changed my language and it says the extraction failed and all the phonemes are <sil>
Hope you can get this fixed soon.
Same issue with the Change speech recognition language error please fix soon! :D
I have no idea what is causing extraction to fail. It's internal to the Speech API, which reports no problems. :(
Hello man i tried your .dll file but when ever i right click to complete extraction it says hlfaceposer.exe has stoped responding and crashes
Im on windows 7 (64bit)
What does this do?, I didn't quite catch
Ok, so Silwerfish posted youtube videos on how to get phoneme extraction working in vista/win 7. They can be found by going to youtube and searching for "SF's Hammer Tutorials - Face Poser 2: Setup" (or episode 3 search for: "SF's Hammer Tutorials - Face Poser 3: Lip Sync"). Episode 3 talks about how to fix the extraction issue that a bunch of you are having. I too had it until I did what he said:
To quote his episode 3:
Can't extract?
1. Go to your start menu (this is windows start menu) and open up the "Control Panel".
2. Make sure you have "View by" set to "Category" (not large/small icons).
3. Click on: "Ease of access", then "Speech recognition" and then "Text to Speech" (to the left).
4. A window should pop up, go to the "Speech Recognition" tab.
5. Set "Language" to "Microsoft Speech Recognizer 8.0 for Windows (English - UK)", if you can't, then just set it to something else and pray that it works.
6. Click Ok and try again (no program restart should be necessary).
Note - on win 7, I found this in advanced speech settings, but it is also there in text to speech. So, change to uk from us and it worked for me.
Good luck.
