are there any plans to add source engine support? displacements arent a big priority for me, but i would love to be able to compile maps for source engine mods or games

Ain't you satisfied with Source Hammer Editor? Although I didn't inspect it much, it seems to be more advanced.

jackhammer is a much more stable editor, easier to use, and doesnt crash at all. source hammer crashes all the time, and its incredibly annoying.

Is it possible to implement toggle-able texture preview in 2d view when selecting solid object? It would look something like this:
I326.photobucket.com
It would be helpful specially when clipping solids.

It is possible, but requires significant modifications to the architecture of the editor's canvases. Maybe some day it will be implemented. However you can still observe clipping plane in 3D aligning it with textures.

When are prefabs going to actually make it in Jackhammer? This is literally the only thing from holding me back from using it regularly because I actually like to use prefabs.

Well, I have a good idea:

Make a folder with all the .jmf's and .rmf's which only contain objects, e.g. smallhut.jmf

Prefab support won't be implemented in the near future, sorry. :(

Instead of trying to figure out the original .ol format, would it be possible to come up with your own in the meantime? Or would that be just as hard?

Object library format is not the problem. The problem is lots of dialogs and code modifications needed to add the functionality.

Ah, I just figured the main issue was the reverse engineering part. Guess I was wrong.
