ToonDOOM addon - Unreal Tournament 3

Toon Doom is a student made mod of Unreal Tournament 3 and was created by myself and a team of six other DePaul University students over a few weeks worth of time. The genre would be defined as a multiplayer racing platformer in which you compete against the level and other players to reach the top of Sugar Death Mountain. One you reach the top and gain control of the 'EraZor', a sought after item by these cartoonish characters, you must race back down to the start. The first to return with EraZor will win the favor of their creator 'AniMaTor' and also the match. The art style is very cartoonish and has a colorful and bright feel to it that sets it apart from Unreal Tournament by visuals alone. Aside visuals, the gameplay differs greatly as you can jump higher and further, use weapons to slow or knock your opponent off course (weapons do not directly deal damage in Toon Doom), and even manipulate the level to your advantage.

Of the six people on the team we had one designated as a producer, two acting artists, two coders and myself as a level designer and creator. Both of the coders, the producer and myself also worked as general designers as we came up with the concepts for the mod and decided how it would work. The majority of my work went into designing and then creating the entire level, along with all of the kismet that goes along with it. The majority of the puzzles were also designed by myself, with input and advice from the team.

Toon Doom recently became a finalists in Phase 3 of the Make Something Unreal Contest (MSUC). MSUC is a contest that gets modders all around the globe coming together to put their skills to work for some serious prizes and notoriety, all using the Unreal Engine. The competition itself has two sections in the final phase, for students and professional competition. However, in phase Phase 3 there is no separation between student and professional work. Toon Doom ended up as one of ten finalists for the "Best Level for a Mod" and was among the six for "Best non-FPS Mod Phase 3 Honorable Mentions". This is a great honor for our team as we are still only students among a large group of already accomplished individuals in the field.
