It is the year 2084. You control a secret organisation charged with
defending Earth from a brutal alien enemy. Build up your bases, prepare
your team, and dive head-first into the fast and flowing turn-based
combat.
UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a squad-based tactical
strategy game in the tradition of the old X-COM PC games, but with a
twist. Our game combines military realism with hard science-fiction and
the weirdness of an alien invasion. The carefully constructed
turn-based system gives you pin-point control of your squad while
maintaining a sense of pace and danger.
Over the long term you will need to conduct
research into the alien threat to figure out their mysterious goals and
use their powerful weapons for your own ends. You will produce unique
items and use them in combat against your enemies. If you like, you can
even use them against your friends with our multiplayer functionality.
'UFO: Alien Invasion'. Endless hours of gameplay -- absolutely free.
The game takes a lot of inspiration from the X-COM series by Mythos and
Microprose. However, it's neither a sequel nor a remake of any X-COM or
other commercial title. What we as a team wanted to make is a brand new
experience that tries to surpass the quality of games from 1992, rather
than simply recreate them with flashier graphics.
We also believe that open-source projects don't
need to be disorganised or badly-managed. We work together in a
friendly and professional way, with a clear vision for a game that we
know is worth playing.

The long wait is over - we finally did it and released the next version of UFO: Alien Invasion. There are a lot of new and stunning features included in this version.
Make sure that you read the full Changelog.
Many thanks goes to Willem Sitters and Destructavator for creating this promo trailer for us: Promo video
There is currently no MAC dmg package available for download. We are
still searching for someone who will support us with building those
packages for ppc and intel (or an universal binary).
Now hop over to the download page and grab your copy.

How do you download for PS3??
despite being exited when this came out i realised quikley that i would be beter to get out some X-com games from under the cubared.(salem5 your rong i tried the new open sorce game and it was rubish)
I love this game to the core. I would help in coding, but I can't bring myself to code in any other Language then C#. And I also think that its a bit unlucky with the Quake 2 Engine. Can't it be something like OGRE?
OMG, there is another Open Source UFO Game. its XNA so not Cross-Platform, but it also uses OGRE. Sorry guys, it were good times but now its time for change.
(won't say the name since it'll be mean to UFO:AI, just check out X-COM in wikipedia under "Open source games inspired by the X-COM series"
This game rocks !
It reminds me the thousands hours I played with Xcom ennemy unknown !
I love it !
Thanks !
I disagree.
Hey, it's free, stop whining.
So write the good points. Dont be a fanboy and just say it's free. Spam email is free, doesn't mean you should want it.
It's not whining, it's constructive criticism. Whining would be "This sucks, stop wasting your lives programming it."
I offered reasons for it scoring lowly with me, reasons all evident within 20 minutes of loading the game.
You offer no reasons for disagreeing other than it's free.
I was planning on writing positive points, then I couldn't be bothered. And now is no exception. You did come off very whiny in your comment, though. "First impressions are bad," etc.
Well first impressions WERE bad for me. I would have listed the things that were good, but with a game that comes across quickly as a decent technical achievement full of good intention, but with little in the way of atmosphere and fun, coupled with a 2000 character limit for comments, there simply was not room to sugar my opinions with niceties.
I notice reviews are on for this game and my opinion on the game has changed somewhat from before, so I think I will post up my overall thoughts after I am done playing as far as I can.
Again: Not whining, character limit + more initial cons than pros = blunt looking comment. It's not my intention to put them off of making this game, but to improve on things that I feel let it down.
i agree with most of your points. and indeed you were only being constructive. just because a game is free it doesnt mean its critics immune. Personally i think this game fails to deliver the spectacle the first xcoms delivered. everything seems too dark while attempting to appear ridiculously scary. I also disliked the alien ship design. Its looks too pointy and weird when compared to the old xcom ufos! They seemed so complete both inside and outside.
