Coming in 0.8.6
The Frost Dragon Lair now uses WBC2's Eyrie model. (It's much crisper and has more detail than the original WBC1 version)
The Rare Mines have their true quality back. (Their image quality was accidentally reduced in previous versions.) In addition to that, Rare Ore Mines now emit smoke. :)
The Spider Lair regains the red eyes that it was always meant to have. The green ones looks as if they were only added as a hot fix to get around a potential oversight - the colouring for the red eyes were originally placed in the team colour index of the palette, so it would change depending on the side who owned it. However, since it's a lair and therefore will only ever be neutral, the eyes would never be coloured and always be grey. So it appears I2's solution was to add in a single green pixel to the palette and the eyes were completed covered in this colour. We've turned it back to the original red so there is now a consistency between the model and the interface images.
I always thought that the Spider Lair was going to be a Dark Elf building, but that the devs decided DE had enough buildings as it was and they converted it into a Lair.
BTW: the frost dragon lair could have a bit of snow on top, to make it more Frost Dragon-ly. :)
Or some ice.
It remains to be seen exactly what the future holds for the Frost Dragon Lair as there were talk about making variants for all of the Dragons. If this does happen, then the buildings for each Dragon would need to be visually different.
It's likely the dragon lairs will be campaign only however. The Dragon Temple now produces all non-racial Dragons at discount and the change was causing compatibility and balancing issues in some skirmish maps.
Perhaps the Dragon Temple should produce only Ogre Dragons (the WBC generic dragon) and factions could have just 2 dragons each (or maybe just one dragon type each to make it more interesting).
(Amusingly, I also named the WBC1 Dragon Ogre Dragon)
In The Protectors, that Dragon has stats greater than any Titan. And the Titans in The Protectors have received a considerable buff from the original game. Such a unit can't really be produced like any other Dragon or even Titan.
However, I do have a plan to bring this Dragon into a normal skirmish. But I won't say how, other than it'll be something that's never been done before. :)
I figured it would be stronger than other dragons to offset the fact that i doesnt have an elemental resistance or weakness. Stronger than a Titan is scary though. :)
What about my proposal that factions get just 1 dragon each? It might not be doable for balance or lore reasons, but I think it would be cooler to have less dragons shared among so many races. You might give dracoliches, fire dragons and frost dragons to the evil races; swamp dragons, storm dragons and frost dragons to the nature races; celestial dragons, storm dragons and frost dragons to the good races; chaos dragons, fire dragons and storm dragons to the chaotic races. But just 1 dragon per faction.
