I've been a huge fan of Warlords Battlecry II and III. The protectors is a mod for WBC III which brings some nice ideas to the original game such as an improved hero leveling-system, balance changes (in the first skirmish I played to try this mod out, I ran into barbarian war hounds which were strong and pretty useful, compared to their weaksauce-version in WBC III) and the re-introduction of bronze and zinman-mode.

The new perk system brings an interesting twist to alter your playstyle. You can, for example, choose to produce units faster but for a higher cost (and vice versa).

I haven't tried the chapters yet, so I won't comment on that.

This is Warlords Battlecry 4. We can hide behind the finger all day long and call this a mod, but this doesn't change the fact that this is the WBC3 sequel we've been looking for all along. I recommend this for any WBC fan, as well as any other RTS players, as there's nothing out there quite like it. For long-time fans of the series, it adds a ton of new features and expands upon the already complex gameplay of the previous entries of the series. This is still in development, however it has impressed me enough to give it a 10/10 rating. Enlight should endorse this as the official sequel, as it deserves to be included on the list of official WBC titles.

The Protectors is a standalone mod/sequel to what I believe is one of the best RPG/RTS hybrids in a long time. It expands on the ideas and brings balance to all the different modes of play to the game. I'm looking forward to further releases and can only hope for the best. Thank You for all your hard work!

I think you guys doing great job. Just dont give up. I want to see version 1.0 and play it.

This is an epic game i ve been a big fan of..
I liked the idea of balancing the races, but come on man..no need to delete buildings or creatures! nerf or boost some..i hate the fact that i can no longer morph slayer knights to doom knights....this is the biggest drawback imo...coz i love the undead...
anyways.. its the best lvl up system and i strongly agree with this modification.
I enjoyed the chapters a lot!
Plz hurry up and give us the campaign...!
keep up the good work!

ps: give us back doom knights! :P

I like the changes you have made and the effort put in.

But I don't really like the ballance changes and the direction it has gone.

Perfect game.

As a more modern review of the game (0.8.9b), I will give you my verdict. The Protectors is undeniably filled to the brim with optimization, improvement and content. The AI is smarter, there are more maps, there are loads of new items and races are more fleshed out.
This gives the mod much well-deserved praise. However, I want to point out my gripes with the balance and some changes I don't agree with. Number 1: hero races no longer have a magic school attached to them, destroying much customization and character. Number 2: troops no longer have easily identifiable weaknesses, their "weakness" is now always zero armor or resistance towards a damage type. For example, Treants are no longer weak to fire now, just neutral. Number 3: all units now seem to have high combat, health and low damage, making everything take forever to die. Critical hits do very little damage now. Long ranged units also no longer exist, all having been nerfed to 4, 6 or 8 range with a max of 10. Siege units can have high range though.
Number 4: instability issues. I've had many crashes while trying to play and I've seen reports of heroes losing perks and other abilities permanently as they played. Number 5: arcane magic (a sphere of magic) seems to have been deleted entirely.

So much good work, so much content and gameplay features, so much effort and dedication in this cult game, that now appear to be a MITH game..i start to think re-introducing it in my 8 pals-LAN-party group! Thanks a lots from me and my 42old nerd bunch ^_^

It is the revival of the great Warlords Battlecry games through community. Loved the originals as they are unique RTS RPG blended genre as no other game came close enough for me to have same level of fun playing it, except Spellforce. I am hoping this will be as good and less buggy then the originals. And they have added the original campaign for wbc3 in this mod and I am hoping wbc1 campaign to be also coming to this mod, now also the ability to add custom campaigns the same way original can be added so single players and stories can be done on more than 1 timeline and direction :). Rest is to be played to be found out by readers :) it brings all 3 together into this one. Hopefully we may come to call it wbc3.5

See you all in the battle field hopefully.
