Red Alert: A Path Beyond brings the exciting storyline and epic clashes from the classic Westwood Studios game, Command & Conquer: Red Alert to realm of first person shooters, with a twist. We've remained loyal to the style and feel of the 1996 classic, while integrating content from its expansions Counterstrike and The Aftermath with a bit of updated history to add to the mix. Built off the W3D engine Westwood Studios built for classics such as Earth & Beyond and Command & Conquer: Renegade finished up in 2001, we help bring the fight to you as you play out your role as any one of a number of infantry classes participating in team-based combat that often involves land, sea, and air combined-arms clashes that just don't happen in any other game. Oh, and did we mention it's FREE?

STAFF UPDATE

Nifty. Anyway, as you can see in this spiffy header thing right here, our staff roster has indeed undergone a change of some sort. Oh, the suspense.

To clarify, we've added two fellows. One is known as oxi, and the other is referred to as none other than zunnie. Seeing as how they've done so much for the mod, especially in terms of improving the gameplay experience through server-side scripts and the like, it seemed like an excellent choice to welcome them to the team. This will make it easier for them to collaborate with and consult the team.

Also, Dex is going to be made a tester due to his part as co-founder of the current, official RA:APB server.

Division of Labor

An efficient division of labor is alive and well here at APB. Bigwig is currently working on a large map with beachfronts for landing troops. Jonwil is splitting up some of the old scripts.dll work and putting it in with the shaders, including work towards new HUD code. Jonwil also "officially" announced earlier today in IRC that he had begun work on the new spy code. Rejoice, for soon spies won't be so... INERT! Same with Thieves and whatnot, but you know all about that, right? Ackart's also focused on the 2D stuff, but there's been a slight issue that you'll read in a moment that is hampering progress for him, slightly!

Computer Failure(s) of the Week

NEW BLOG FEATURE?

It seems that every week or two now someone makes a post on the internal boards that they have managed to either explode or melt their computer in some way. This week, JeepRubi's spontaneously combusted and melted. Not only that, but it seems that Ackart's integrated network card killed itself.

Check in next week to see what other hapless souls end up with computer shrapnel embedded in their faces. I am particularly overdue for a computer screwup since I've never really had a hardware failure in my life and especially since my Karma has just gone way downhill by reporting on this.

Forum Tweaks

Recently we got a new, relatively unmoderated forum for everyone to post in. Now, you might notice a catchy tune play when you enter the forum - this is normal! Plus, you now have the luxury of RATING THREADS in this forum. The Tactics and Strategies forum also has the thread-rating feature enabled, for reasons that are obvious.

Wrapup

As I was writing this Chronojam paged me and said he was going to be posting a Game Update featuring the Mobile Gap Generator sometime very soon. Go check and see if the update is live, yet!

More next week.
