Currently im just recreating the first level, but if enough people like it and are willin to help ill see where it goes UPDATE: New Images & Inspiration image Edited by (in order): Vinny_S, Vinny_S, Vinny_S, Vinny_S, Vinny_S, Vinny_S, Vinny_S, Vinny_S |

If you hadn't started on Source I would have advised you not to use it |

I don't think iD would take kindly, especially with a new Wolfenstein in the works. Various Doom Source mods have been shutdown over the past few years, Wolf is unlikely to be an exception. |

Could you do it on Doom3/Quake4? I don't know for sure, but I assume that would be seen in a more favourable light than doing so on Source. Even if you go for an ID tech4 game, you'd best make sure you won't get shut down before you commit too much work to it. Don't even try on Source, you will get a Cease and Desist for sure. -- "lets say Portal is a puzzle game, so its a rehash of Tetris" |

Yeah hopefully you don't get C&D for this looks cool... oh and are the WADs supposed to be that quality, because I like it like that haha... gives that nostalgic wolfenstein feel. --

it's being done in doom 3 currently: Doom3world.org but it's nazi's & WW2. Just don't call it "wolfenstien" (actually... maybe you could. id doesn't own THAT name, they ripped it from a previous game). In fact... searching the US copyright office shows this info: use a different font & i don't believe, legally, they can touch you as long as you don't rip-off anything. I wouldn't worry about a C&D on this one. -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein were 1982 Muse Software games. iD released Wolfenstein 3D in 1992. |

there's several game under "wolfenstein." id doesn't own the "wolfenstein" name, just the trademarks that it's a part of. Technically, you can trademark "wolfenstein source" if you wanted. -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

Wolfeinstein is actually a reference to a specific rock formation in Germany, apparently: Or you could hyphenate it to Wolfen-stein, which is seems to be a location in Ohio: Edited by (in order): UnknownTarget, UnknownTarget |

Stening wolf Seems like a good idea though, my only comment on it would be that moving it onto an updated game like source might remove the "takiness" that makes it amazingly nostalgic, some people might appreciate the change over though Thats just my thoughts anyway, I think most people would appreciate even being able to play a simple conversion as long as it has the music, I know I would |

Cool idea. I completely agree with AbedeuS that using some sort of cell shading could add to visual appeal of the game. It'd definitely be possible to do on the source engine (look at Team Fortress 2), though might require a lot of added work. Edited by: ObeseMeerkat --

TF2 had a lot more going on for their rendering purposes. Here is a video explaining what they did. You might need a plugin to view it. To the OP: that looks like a good start, but it would be cool to see Wolfenstein brought up to the specs and visuals of this/next generation of video games. Add more stuff, make it darker, pay more attention to details. Those eagles sitting on top of swasticas could be modeled, and not just a flat texture slapped on a polygon. Edited by: zenarion -- |

Yeah, unless you added detail it kinda makes a remake useless. As much as I hate them, Black Mesa are doing it relatively right with remaking HL. |

Random question: Why does everybody on this forum hate the source engine? Its just something ive noticed here and i was wondering why I've been working on making every part of the original map better, more in tune with next gen games; the old images were just old progress shots. Heres an update from within hammer: PS. I dont really think they would C&D me, its very different to the original wolfenstein3d. |

Cell shading on the current Source Engine build is VERY possible. The Source Engine is actually one of the best engines, it's just so easy and flexible. Good work on it, I've never played any of the games, but it looks faithful to the original, from what I can tell. |

True Cel Shading isn't possible, simply because you can't change the lighting. You can do cartoony textures and shaders all you want, but the fact remains that the lighting engine won't make it complete. And while Source is flexible (theres alot there to change, I'll give you that), it is NOT easy. |

Why does everyone here hate Source? Well, its mainly me (even though I mod it), but the engine is... well, it sucks. The codebase is complex to work with. Steam is a pain in the arse. The engine is technologically behind most others, and the toolset blows. Too true - I've not much enjoyed working with Source for well, years now... I feel more sorry for the artists, who have to get their hands dirty with command line tools and script files - poor guys, they look at me with confusion on their faces and tears in their eyes, it breaks my heart! |

It's been over two years, I felt it was time... to keep this vaguely on topic, good luck with your mod - my issue from looking at the screen shots is that you've retained a lot of the "flatness" of the original game, you've got the chance to make it truly like some old nazi castle with really interesting architecture. I'd certainly have to say that you should go with your own colour scheme, rather than the blue walls of nastiness. |

Haven't posted in a few days, but progress hasn't stopped I've made lots of progress, and am more or less sure how this map will look by the end of it, but its all work in progress so nothing to really see. Never the less i still have another screenshot from inside hammer |

Cellshading is possible on Source I believe. Look at the bouncy ball in GMOD10 |
