Every summer, gamers go through a debilitating drought. The well of releases worth playing slows to a trickle and many are left to do nothing more than drool over the titles planned for release next holiday season. It's during this time that many gamers come to ModDB to satiate their gaming appetites. They search high and low for something that will pique their interest.

While the MOTY Awards provide a wealth of choices among mods and indie games, they usually overlook gaming gems within our community released in the first half of the year. To combat this oversight, ModDB has launched the Summer of Mods & Indies event! Featuring exclusive content from all the major releases of the last 6 months, gamers are bound to find something to quench their thirst.

The Summer of Mods & Indies provides much needed exposure to mods and indie games in order to help them connect with their potential audiences. If you'd like to participate in this year's event, your too late... entries closed on July 15th. Instead sit back, thank the presenting sponsor US Air Force, and prepare to be bombarded with exclusive content from the best mods and indies from the first 6 months of the year.

This developer commentary installment discusses the Deus Ex Incarnate mission.

Although the team behind The Nameless Mod has already detailed some of the ups and downs of their 7 years of development in their post-mortem, (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) they still have a lot more to share! After all, any developer attached to a project for over 7 years will have more than a few stories to share. As a result, TNM developers Jonas, Lawrence and Nick have put together a series of developer commentary videos.

The first covers the 'downtown' hub area.

The second video shows developer commentary on the Air Traffic Control missions.

The third video showcases the booby-trapped maze that is the Old Server Complex.

This developer commentary installment discusses the Deus Ex Incarnate mission.

A word of warning: these videos will contain spoilers.

I haven't beat the mod yet, and I don't want to spoil anything, but I really want to watch the video.

Its a catch 22.

Video is pretty spoilerific, so it's best to wait ;)

Hehe... "Use the Mul*tai*-tool". Good I laughed so much about that voice acting... but in a positive way. In fact I didn't notice the window as an alternative route neither. But backtracking is not so hard there as with the speed aug the jumping puzzle gets less annoying. And the hacking puzzle is great. Reminds me a bit on Uplink. In general a nice series of maps.

The window was an alt route? Damn you.
I've played TNM 4-5 times now and I never thought of it that way. ;_;

Also Digital Ronin ftw, I love his appearance on that holocom thing, he's just plain awesome. :D

I guess that window exit was a bit more of a fail than we thought :p

Awww, you made Jonas shut up for Scara, but did you bother to have a moment of silence for Fauntroy? No! :P

Poor Fauntroy :( Such an awesome name.

Oh yeah, Fauntroy... I nearly fell off the ledge when that PM came around. Definitely the map with the most hilarious PMs in the entire game. Comedy plus points for Beeblequix babbling about misusing the PM system to fill your ears with crap. Just awesome stuff. :D

By the way... who came up with Fauntroy? ;)

I just hope he's not as narrative as Beeblequix is ;)

i am so enjoying these commentaries :D

DXI was great. i even enjoyed the annoying jumping puzzles. add to that the insane difficulty of not being able to quick save easily since Beeblequix hardly ever shuts up and you get one hilarious comment on old-school FPS design...

brings a tear to my eye *sniffs*
oh HL1 Xen levels... how you both annoyed me and brought me joy

"hilarious comment on old-school FPS design"

Yes uhm... that's exactly what it was meant to be. Yep. Definitely.

(Also I can assure you that you would not have enjoyed the jumping puzzle we cut. I'll try to get it into the bonus material for the 1.0.3 DVD.)

Hahaha... perhaps I'm 'reading into it too much'? Well intentional or not, it certainly says a lot about that ;)

Of course you mean't it as a smartsy comment on game design... what else would it be? *coughs* LOL
