War of the Silmarils is a sub-mod of Third Age: Total War, the ever popular total conversion for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The goal is to follow the lore as closely as possible and faithfully reproduce the heroic First Age of Tolkien's Middle-earth in the Medieval II: Total War engine. War of the Silmarils features many new unique factions, each complete with a roster of units, a completely new campaign map of Beleriand and the lands to the North, and much more. So if you're one of the many who have been enthralled by Tolkien's mystical world, this is a mod to watch!

The shimmering of the spears of the hosts of the Noldor is blinding, like the sun reflecting off grains of sand in the dry desert wastes. The Noldor spearmen are the backbone of any Noldor host. The Noldor spearmen hold tall tower shields emblazoned with the devices of their Lords made for the catching of darts out of the air. They are girt in a mail hauberk, shimmering silver, that is capable of turning aside many a blow and their tall silver helms are of the finest make, only to be rent by the mightiest attack. With a great spear each is armed, long and piercing, skewering any who might dare come within their long reach. But the true strength of these spearmen is not their great skill, not their fine gear, but their training and ability to form a shielded phalanx. Every Elf within this formation protects himself and his companions, their high density making them hard to push through, their overlapping shields hard for darts and missiles to circumvent and upon their spears, thick as a thorn bush, any charge by mount and rider or infantry would be thwarted and broken. Bravely they march under the gonfalons of their Lords, gladly giving their lives for their people, to thwart the Dark One and make awry his designs.
