War of the Silmarils is a sub-mod of Third Age: Total War, the ever popular total conversion for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The goal is to follow the lore as closely as possible and faithfully reproduce the heroic First Age of Tolkien's Middle-earth in the Medieval II: Total War engine. Edain auxilia of the House of Bëor who swore fealty to Finrod Felagund, carrying spears and wooden shields bearing the device they made for Finrod, a harp and a torch, recalling the legend of Finrod walking in the woods of east Beleriand and appearing among the Men of the House of Bëor playing a harp.

Ancient was the friendship between the Edain of the House of Beor and the Eldar of the House of Finrod. When the Edain crossed the Blue Mountains into the lands of Beleriand following Beor the Old, Finrod Felagund came upon them and marvelled. As they rested, he played a song upon his harp which greatly stirred the Edain. From that point on, the folks of Beor and Finrod were befriended, and Finrod counselled Beor to take the region of Estolad as his own.
Though they defended their lands, the folk of Beor swore fealty to Finrod and marched under his banners when he called them. The House of Beor Auxilia accompanied the hosts of the Eldar when they marched, and upon their shields they bore the harp and torch; the device of Finrod who came to their fore-fathers long ago.
Though not as enduring as their Eldar brethren-at-arms, the folk of Beor are stout and brave, and will stand aside their lords as long as blood flows in their veins.
