So they wore heavy coats in the summer, just like the Frogs? Sweaty Belgians and French dying of heat stroke rather than enemy weapons.

It was things like this that cost the French so many loses, specially at the beginning of the war

That always struck me as a curious choice on the part of the French and Belgians during the early part of the war. Any idea why they did something like that?

Why? well probably because of Napoleon and the Monarchy's, you see the people of 100 years ago didn't think like we do now they were stuck in the old ways, the old world order of the time, that is also reflected in the French early war uniform where you can see the Napoleon red and blue

Stuck in the old ways, eh? So they were trad? Kind of epic, not gonna lie. Being "stuck in the old ways" is good, most of the time.

Red trousers were introduced in 1829. They had nothing to do with Napoleon (neither the first nor the third).
The "blue" came the revolutionary wars (it was the colour of the uniforms of the National Guard, as opposed to the white uniforms of the royalists). So again, nothing to do with either Napoleons.

don_durandal, It seems that you did not understand what I said about the Napoleon red and blue, when I said "the Napoleon red and blue" I was making a reference point so the other person could get an idea about it, that's all

And by the way, some Hussars of Napoleon the first did use red trousers, here take a look for your self

The wearing of the greatcoat on campaign on all seasons was an habit French soldier kept from the conquest of Algeria in 1830; back then the greatcoat was more confortable than the tight high-collared coatee they were supposed to wear in summer. They kept that tradition over all subsequent wars (Crimea, Italian Independence, Franco-Prussian war, etc).

Note that they wore the greatcoat alone in summer, with just a shirt underneath. It was too hot in summer, but at least they didn't have to wear a tunic underneath like the poor Belgian infantrymen.

I’ve been curious to see what the Belgian uniforms looked like without the leather cover on the shako or the tunic without the greatcoat.

There are some colorized photos here: Arquebusiers.be

The tunic worn on campaign (under the greatcoat) was a different model from the parade one though; look at photos of cyclists to see what it looked like (thankfully cyclists didn't have to wear the greatcoat on campaign).

That is a good website with nice colourised photos.

Will the Belgian grenadiers wear their bearskins into battle? Also, why did some Belgian soldiers were the Corsican hats? They look like Austrian Jäger from 1809.

The Grenadiers did not wear their bearskins in battle in 1914, so no, they won't wear them ingame either; they left them at their main barracks in Brussels when they left for the front in August 1914 (the German looted them when they took the city).

The corsican hat was worn by Carabiniers. They inherited them from the Partisans of Limburg raised during the Belgian revolution of 1830.
