The Great War mod is a total conversion modification for Napoleon: Total War. It creates an authentic representation of World War 1-era tactics, strategies and general warfare within the game. Including stunning new visuals that include entirely new models and textures for equipment, vehicles and more, the mod immerses you into the era with brand new gameplay unlike anything you've experienced in Total War before.

Ive finalized the campaign map colors for the major factions but Im having trouble picking a color for some of the emergent factions.

Their color needs to be based on one of the colors from their flag or the color of their uniforms or something else tied to that country.

Also they need to contrast with the surrounding factions so they can easily be told apart from eachother.

What do you guys suggest?

Hey Bdizzle, first off great work with the mod. Id say maybe you should make Bulgaria green (as its traditionally green in maps and other games like hoi4, eu4, vic2), Austria red (instead of yellow), and Hungary yellow. And btw why is Poland missing the Konigsberg area, maybe you should give it to them when they become released, to decrease border gore

Bulgaria does not exist on this map. That's Ottoman territory, as it is in the base game. And since you can't modify the base game map, Bulgaria does not exist where it should be

San Marino wouldn't make any sense to add, and Japan isn't on the map, as NTW only covers Europe

All colours are fine, and it is nice to see Estonia.

I agree, the colors work great. Ireland, Finland, Hungary, and Poland are perfect. Czechoslovakia, I'm not sure about the dark red, but it's far enough away from other red states so it isn't an issue.

That's my issue, a lot of these emergents are still using the vanilla color for that faction.
That's why I need some recommendations, perhaps from people who live in those countries.

Estonia does seem a little too bright, and maybe Belarus, but that's about it.

Yeah I do need to tone down Estonia a bit.

Maybe Norway should be a medium-colored blue, considering how the Norwegian flag has a little blue cross?

Hmmm... Maybe you could make Ukraine a more vivid blue instead of the dull gray it is now. Austria could be white (1/3 of the flag) to free up that gold-yellow for Romania. I'm not sure what I'd change Croatia to, and I hate to say "just figure it out", but I don't think they really fit that brown.

Ok, I'll try changing Ukraine to the blue color in their flag, but desaturated a bit.
White for Austria is a good idea.
Croatia is supposed to be Yugoslavia so I was thinking some shade of green maybe.
The color it's using is the vanilla color for wurtenburg or whoever we used for them.

I like the Habsburg yellow for Austria personally. White would be better for Croatia in my opinion.

Yeah I think I will use the yellow for this and white for the follow up submod I'm making.

I think you could try making Poland snow white like in MED2, White is just as important in our flag so it would fit. Especially since in 1919 the flag was not standardized yet, so some were white-red, red-white and some were only red so no matter which way you look at it will fit.

Thats a good point. Whilst the USSR will probably be green for Russia still, mentally I reckon a 'white Poland' works better visually if squashed between Germany and a Communist Russia.
