The mod spans both eras and at current encompasses all 17 maps of the original Star Wars: Battlefront. You will get to play with new weapons inspired by the legacy of the entire franchise, such as the Shotgun, T-21 and A280C. Play your favourite battles from the original game in a new way: no two factions play the same.
Here are some of the features:
Version 2 is currently underway.
In 2023, I restarted development on what was originally known as Star Wars: Battlefront Legacy. I amended the title in the hopes of avoiding confusion with the similarly-titled Star Wars: Battlefront III Legacy and resumed working on the project, with a new direction, inspired by the various entries in the Battlefront franchise. The first thing I did was overhaul the class system. Though I kept to the same basic structure as the original Legacy mod - which in turn was a modified version of the base game's structure.
I also chose to change some of the maps to add in props and features recogniseable from other games, such as the Processing Facility in Cloud City. Some maps have been extensively redressed, while some simply have the odd cosmetic tweak.
In mid 2023, I chose to return to education, and so work on the mod was halted for a while, until I could properly assess my situation as well as the work I had done so far. That assessment has now concluded and I feel comfortable enough to continue and push this over the finish line.
As far as this restart goes, it's the same mod it was in 2023, just with a new title. Given its current state, which I am happy to say is pretty much feature-complete, it is now planned for release this year - the new name was chosen to celebrate 20 years since the original game launched.
As far as further support, one map pack addon is expected to be shipped alongside the release - the Star Wars: Battlefront II map pack, which will enable you to play all ported SWBF2 maps properly with this mod. Further map packs are being explored, such as a map pack containing my previous maps, updated to work with Anniversary Edition, and support for the Elite Squadron Map Packs.
Stay tuned in the coming months for further news.
Announcement for the next Phase of Star Wars: Battlefront Legacy - Phase II.
This article explores some of the ideas behind Star Wars: Battlefront Legacy.
Hi, any plan to add the MTT and HTT-26 heavy transport ?
Hi is the mod done or am I dumb for not finding download button? Looks amazing!
THis is not due to be released until September
Really good mod, I still have the "Legacy: Phase II" one installed and is my preferred way to play the game. I really like that you used DICE's version of the iconic weapons, it gives a nice variety between each faction along with the revised classes.
The nerd in me makes me suggest you to make the Phase II clones in Kashyyyk more consistent, as they are a mix of different regiments, for example making most of them look like the "sniper class" (similar in how you used the galactic marine model in the snow maps), but nothing too serious.
Question, are you planning on adding more "visual" variety to each faction in the release? For example, having those rebel fleet troopers from the beginning of Episode IV or using different regiment paintjobs (or phase II armor) depending on the map for the Republic side in the Clone Wars era?
Also, would you consider adding back B2 Super Battle Droids in some form? Either as their own Special class replacing the droideka in some maps or replacing the assault droid in maps with few vehicles.
Anyways, I'm hyped for the "finished" version in September. Can't wait!
Thank you!
This new mod is reworked so quite a few things have changed from the old Legacy versions. The Super Battle Droid is now the Soldier class by default. Both the Soldier and Sniper clones on Kashyyyk use Clone Scout skins. There are a variety of skins dependent on map.
Nice to hear, looking forward to the formal release!
Yes, I am aware of the upcoming Classic Collection.
No, it does not affect my plans for SWBF: AE.
To bolt on to this, now I know the state of the Classic Collection version: I currently have no plans to bring this mod to it. Getting it working for that version of the game would be a lot more work than it is currently worth. I intend to release this mod for the older versions that released previously (the old Steam versions, and CD/DVD versions)
I've now concluded the pre-alpha testing phase, with the next phase being the implementation of the SWBF2 map pack. This will take some time and require a second testing period. Once that's concluded, this will be parked until September 21 - the 20th anniversary of the release of the original game.
