Hi All, John Grammaticus here from Phoenix Studios.

I am about to disappear on a holiday for three weeks so production will appear to stop, however there will be activity in the background with our team of designers. On that note I wanted to really honor the designers who are contributing their designs to this project.

So with a massive thanks to Airmaster, Amaro Kai, Omnibus and Rosa Dos Santos please see a preview of ships for the Federation Faction below, this is approximately 2/3 of the ships the faction will have all drawn from Canon Star Trek, from the DY-100 to the USS Rhode Island, eventually all ships from the show will be here. Full Size Image.

Each of these ships has been uploaded in full size to the gallery for your viewing pleasure. See you all in 3 weeks.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

For any of these older mods, to get them to work you need to edit any FactionShipStyleDefs files in the Game directory (in this case it is called "FactionShipStyleSetDefs_Federation.xml").

Do a global find and replace. Everywhere is has "ObjectGfxConfig" replace it with "ShipDesign"

A massive gaping hole that will never be filled until maybe now is a complete empire building game based on Star Trek.

I would think each faction gradually growing through the era's is so fantastic and would love to see what could happen with this mod. I'm guessing you guys know this already but the Daystrom institute website is the most accurate and detailed you can get on the web and maybe try contacting the Star Trek Armada 3 dev team, I'm sure they would love to help you with this and have a tonne of experience and expertise.

A great idea, it bugs me that there's never been a really good replacement for Star Wars Supremacy or Star Trek Birth of The Federation. Even they weren't as good as they should have been really.

I have a suggestion, which you can take or leave, I've always thought it was a canny idea over the years.

Whilst you could have the ships in chronological order, how about the tech tree being tied to specific parts, so that if you're advanced in one area, you might be able to design a ship that looks like an Ambassador Class but with Galaxy Class Engines?

I.e. as you research new components, the look of the engines change, the phasers turn to arrays (TNG) instead of Phase Cannons (ENT) or Phaser Emmitters (TOS) - Roughly you could plot it so that the components come about at around the right time chronologically, but it would also allow people to design their own ships using the parts, etc.

You'd then, like in STO have skin patterns that you'd apply to the ships so the components don't look odd together, etc.

Like in the core Gal Civ game, you'd still have the stock cannon/fanon ships come about following the correct technologies being researched.

This is exactly what i'm aiming for :)

Although this is a bit more advanced than simple modding as it requires us to replace the original parts models in the game directory which would mean it becomes a full TC rather than a mod you can switch on and off.

This is however on the roadmap, and i'm talking with Stardock at the moment with regards to releasing as a TC using their engine but not impacting the game if you want to play normal GC3 :)

Will this mod will allow the Ai to use the new ships? And will they have customized tech trees? I look forward to seeing more

Hi,

The attached download both factions can be played with the AI using the new ships correctly.

There will be new tech trees for each of the factions but they come once we have a full shipsrt coded for each faction :)

I played a Star Trek mod for Gal Civ 2 and it worked so well with this type of game. Really best wishes for you guys in your attempts, the first models are looking fantastic.

Thanks very much Jonsin, the designers had a major headstart on me so in fact there are an awful lot of models done. The coding is what is preoccupying me at the moment.
