A mod for Hexen 2 that adds weapon altfires, stat upgrades, and various balance tweaks, effects, bugfixes, & new features for mappers. This fork is based on the Shadows Of Chaos mod/mapset by Bloodshot, which is in turn based on the Game Of Tomes mod. Detailed description, credits, & instructions included in readme file.
Unzip the contents into your Hexen 2 directory such that all .exe and .dll files are overwritten. To play, use the included .bat file or otherwise launch the game with the "-game soc" command. You can replay the vanilla game and user maps with the mod, or create new maps using the mod's various features. There are also a few releases that require the mod and use its' features. Install them into the mod's folder, without allowing any overwriting. The only conflict is that they include different Strings.txt, which you'll need to manage. If you download the SoC demo hub, rename the "demo1.bsp" and "demo1.lit" files to any other name, such as "vil1.bsp", because the name conflicts with a file in this mod.
Recommended engine: uHexen2 (latest testing build, included with mod)

I have some questions. Does this work with jsHexen 2? Also, has Assassin's Hide in Shadows been improved at all? Basically, what I'd like to see with Assassin gameplay is to be more stealth based. So you can move during Hide in Shadows, shortly - then you will become visible (unless you move to another shadowy area).
A quick reply is really appriciated! :) Thank you!
have a good day/evening
Hello good Sir,
I am quite happy to see you are doing well and keep this mod up.
But since the last update I can't use the upgrade menu and the option menu doesn't seem to work. I can open it, so keys are responding but no way to move up and down or to confirm a choice. Nothing was changed in the key.config.
Another thing that came to my mind while playing your mod for a long time now:
You used Wisdom for dmg increase of many weapons.
In the original the higher the Wisdom stat the faster the character levels.
So the necromancer gets damn overpowerd because you increase the damage and level up like a madman for more Wisdom.
If you like some suggestions for the stat balancing:
General
Str: more hp, melee dmg
Dex: effectivity of Armor is really good
Int: Cube lifetime + damage, more mana
Wis: more exp and utility like homing
Pala
Str: melee dmg (all weapons including axe)
Int: magic dmg
Crus
Str: melee dmg (include thrwon warhammer)
Int: magic dmg
Wis: Ice Mace altfire spread, Ice Mace blizzard lifetime, Meteor Staff tornado lifetime
Necr
Str: melee dmg
Int: magic dmg
Wis: Sickle lightning strike amount, Bone altfire shard amount, Bone turret firerate, Magic Missile homing rate
Assa
Int: Set Staff dmg
Dex: damage katar, Backstab Chance , Bow, Mines
Demo
Int: magic dmg
Wis: Acid Orb poison time, Flame Orb burning chance, Flame Orb flame circle radius
So in over all, if a character needs to invest in more than two attributes it becomes to spreaded. If you would increase the amount of points per level to 10 this could be a solution and is a classic standart (Diablo) So three attributes per char would be viable. But the way Wisdom works in the moment it is way to powerful compared to other things.
And a little wish from my side:
A option to increase the spawnrate of enemys. I sometimes sit around and wait for them. And maybe a trigger to repopulate the current lvl after solving a puzzle?
Please keep it up and have great day!
Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback, I'll think about the stats for the next version. For the menus, the keybinds were changed in this version. Using the next weapon/previous weapon keys changes your selection, and the attack button confirms.
LOL, how dumb can I be...
Thanks mate!
Cheers!
does this mod change any enemy placement so as to use the new enemies, or are the vanilla maps unchanged?
The vanilla maps have some extra ambient effects added, but no gameplay changes
hey im just wondering, is this the gameplay and maps of shadows of chaos or just the gameplay cause im trying to get this to work with the base game through the UQE hexen 2 source port and i got no clue how to get it to work
its just the gameplay, with my own fixes/changes/additions. the mod has a batch file that should launch the game. if not, create your own batch or shortcut to the engine with the command -game soc (-game just takes the name of the subfolder the mod is in). im not sure if UQE supports the mod. if not, try this engine: Hexenworld.org
Hi i can't find the Game of Tomes you've included in the mod, even on readme files. Is it the lastest one?
Not sure. The mod originated in 2017, so it probably used the latest version at that time. But since then a lot has been changed and added on top of the GOT base. The way Quake engine mods work, you cant really mix & match mods, so if there is a new version of GOT, it cant easily be merged with this mod.
