LibreCoop 1.2 is finally here!


For those who don't know LibreCoop yet, it is an Open Source coop mod for Dhewm3, and if you ask "why yet another coop mod if we have already some?" then the answer it's simple: Because this one it's the only one who is totally Open Source and GPLv3 Licensed, and also who works with the dhewm 3 source port.

Features of LibreCoop Alpha 1.2:

  • Cinematics partially working (some bugs to be fixed yet)
  • PDAs
  • Runs the whole Doom 3 campaign
  • Works with ROE too (librecoopd3xp, not tested enough though)
  • Survival Game Mode (where you can play with a limited ammount of lives)
  • Coop Game Mode (Infinite ammount of lives)
  • Improved IDTech 4 netcode a bit to help players with high ping.
  • Fast Monsters option (False by default), monsters are 50% faster and projectiles are 25% faster too.
  • Damage Factor option (default 1.0, g_damageFactor): used to make monsters do even more damage for a real challenge.
  • Open Source!!
  • Easy to make it compatible with custom maps, since LibreCoop barely uses custom scripts and .def, it is really easy to port custom maps with custom enemies to work with LibreCoop. (Actually all custom maps that work for OpenCoop should work with LibreCoop)
  • Uses the original OpenCoop 2.0 alpha + 2.1 patch maps to ensure a better coop experience while playing the original Doom 3 and ROE campaign.
  • Works with Dhewm3 1.5.0 and Dhewm3 1.5.1RC2 (recommended to use 1.5.1RC2)

Of course this is an Alpha release yet, and we expect some bugs to be found and fixed, so I'll be happy to read some comments related about bugs or problems to fix, this is an Open Source project so anyone can help and that's the idea.

How about sync command r_lightscale ? This command makes the game lighter in terms of lighting. (I joined a dedicated server, where it was possible to do this. When I created my own, I couldn't change it anymore. )
And will you also support doom 3 bfg edition ? Or have you abandoned it yet ?

stradexengine May I ask for an optional but much requested feature.

In normal DOOM 3 some maps are made so that enemies spawn right in front of the players. That is super immersion breaking.

It is funny because the first levels of DOOM 3 enemies do NOT spawn in your face but as the game progressed it is like the devs got lazy.

Can we have an option that enemies only spawn when players are not looking at their spawning positions. They should spawn way before the player reaches their location or well after. (This is the modern AI spawning behavior)

Additionally, it would be great to have an option to randomize enemy spawns so they don't always spawn on the same locations. It adds to replayability and players need to always be alert!

It is probably not so easy, maybe I'm wrong. But some kind of "additional enemies" mode could work nice.

I tried this mod for the first time yesterday and WOW!

This is the true successor to Opencoop 2.0

I have tried most of the coop mods for DOOM 3 over many years (LMS, MCS, OPENCOOP) and whilst MCS is good it does not have all the coop maps playable and some other things that Opencoop has.

The mod looks great, runs better and smoother online than the others but I still detect some strange light clunkyness jank not sure if its with the Dhewm though. It could be my PC.

But having said that this is the best coop mod out at the moment as all maps work like Delta labs 1 and 2b.

What I would like to see added is more difficulty modes and damage scales with more people on the server.

Healthpool mode like Opencoop had.
True Survival - One life per player. Friendly fire off.
Hell Knight headhunters and more difficult monster A.I

the mod has minor bugs which I am sure will be fixed over time. But well done to the creator of this mod its very good for an alpha build. 9/10

Hopefully one day this mod will ported for doom3 for the Occulus Quest to play with more people.

I am planning to add more difficulty modes, I am not sure if they will be available for the next alpha version or for the first beta release.

There is already True Survival btw (you need to play Survival Game Mode, not Coop GameMode, with si_lives 1)

I am making some progress for next alpha version, lot of testing is being made and hopefully next alpha version will be stable enough.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I found the survival mode and its great that you can set lives glad you added this mode as it makes it much harder. With the options that you have on the screen for like fast demons you could easily have a toggle setting for healthpool which could be turned off/on for normal coop mode not survival mode.

Imagine if also you had more random enemies spawn when more people are on the server to make it harder rather then just the same ammount that happen in single player that would be good. Also some games have a randomizer mod where it randomizes the enemies you face at any point along with items and pickups.

Im looking forward to your next alpha build.
