HOOVER1979 UltraHD Texture Pack


This is the second demo release of my work in progress UltraHD Texture pack for Doom, Doom II, Plutonia Experiment and Evilution.

The texture pack is in 5 files. One main file and 4 game specific override files. this is not only so that all 4 doom games have their own skies and don't all share Doom 2's skies but because some textures in The Plutonia Experiment and Evilution use the same names as some of the Doom/Doom2 textures. for each game, you will need to load both the main file, and the override for your game. For example for Doom 1, you would need to load the main file in a batch file and then the doom 1 override afterwards.

This pack is still a long way from completion and all textures presented in this pack are subject to change. I am teaching myself as I go, and as my skills further develop textures that aren't up to scratch with the developed skills will be remade so the utmost attention to detail and overall quality is upheld.

These textures are of a whopping resolution and this pack is designed for GZDoom. This pack will crash Doomsday/Risen 3D at multiple points with memory allocation errors it is due to some textures/skies being larger then the strict requirements the JDoom engine will allow. I plan to make a Doomsday/Risen3D compatible pack when this one is finished. I also plan on making a bright map pack for the GZDoom pack and a smaller 1k texture pack for low-end machines. I have only tested this pack with the 64bit Gzdoom 3.1 The same crash issues may be present with the 32bit version of GZDoom, but I am unsure of that as I haven't tested this on the 32Bit version of GZDOOM. Use this on the 32bit version at your own risk, and don't be surprised if you get crashes.

If you want to use any of these textures in your own project you are welcome as long as the following conditions are adhered too.

1: You must not modify my work
2: You must not claim my work to be your own
3: You must give me credit for my work on your mod's page, in the accompanying readme file and everywhere you advertise your mod this includes linking to my ModDB page and My Deviantart Repository.

In the screenshots, I also use the Ketchup v5 blood mod, and in the video, I used both the Ketchup V5 blood mod and the Doom Metal Music mod. these mods are not made by me and all credits go to the authors of those mods. I just made the textures.

Battlefield 1944 aims to be a modern HD reimagining of the 2002 classic PC game Battlefield 1942. The mod will feature more classes than the original game had, and will also aim to do away with unrealistic historically incorrect equipment. No longer will British use American weapons and vehicles. Japanese will also no longer be stuck to using German equipment and weapons. All factions will be using historically authentic equipment, weapons and vehicles.


ABR Mod is new overhaul mod as alternative to Complete Mod. You can consider this mod just like a pack with merged mods, but it was made as one solid overhaul with its own balance, graphics and audio. However, this mod doesn't change game drastically. The main goal is to make COP up to date and give good experience for a couple of game sessions with original atmosphere. So, it's just a good renewal and a reason to go back to the Zone for one more time.


"Total War: Rise of Mordor" is an epic overhaul project based on "The Lord of the Rings". With an enthralling Middle-Earth campaign and hundreds of unique, completely reworked units this mod aims to unleash an immersive experience you have never felt before. The visuals of the mod are based on films however the background story is accurate to the books.

I am living in a new house and the internet speeds are terrible. Especially the upload speed. Apparently, we will get a better fiber-optic setup in the next 3 months but at the moment I can't upload as the upload speed is less than 1Mbps (my internet is strictly wireless atm). If I make more textures I can't upload the 3rd demo until I get a reasonable upload speed. Please don't be disheartened by lack of updates, it takes forever to upload a single picture of new textures.

I've been hit with another setback. I am moving house and I aggravated my bursitis in my left shoulder from packing. Hopefully, the pain can go away in a few days and I get this move done so I can get back to texture work.

Moving house is so stressful!

Hey Hoover,

I am so very impressed with the turnaround of the 1k version of your textures, especially given the issues you have been faced with lately!!! Many thanks for looking at this, from me especially, given that I only asked what the reaon for the slowdown was a few weeks back. Yes, it is there in parts, but not EVERY time a new switch is thrown etc. I only hope as youv'e stated yourself, the GZDoom developers recognise this trait and in a future update, manage to iron this out!! All the very best man, I hope your improving (health wise) every day!!!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you have an improvement with the 1k textures.

I think 1k is the go-to for VR too, as running the VR version of GZDoom would be taxing enough with 1k textures, and nobody wants to stutter from 2k textures while in VR.

Hi hoover,

I want to give my feedback. I tried both versions 1k and 2k (GZDoom)

The lag with the buttons were 99% gone for me with the 1k version. Tested 4 maps in ultimate Doom.

I think this textures pack has big potential, (although i think the bullet holes in the walls in e1m2 look a bit repetitive, but no big deal)

however, and heres my suggestion, i liked the HD textures pack from vasyan777 in his "Doom Remake 4" (a.k.a low poly doom) for the reason that it uses shades for reflections.

I loaded up all three packs at once (your base pk3 with doom1 override after hd_textures from doom remake pak)and for the most part it worked, but there are a few misaligned shaders now, so maybe you want to implement your own shader, or simple change the texture shift to make it fit with yours.

Don't know how much it's worth for you, as i think the shaders would only work in GZDoom.

Maybe you want to take a look on it.

Thanks for your feedback.

To create these shaders I'd need to get new programs and have to teach myself how to use them. I don't have the money for said programs, and if I did have them, I'd be stuck for months or even years trying to figure them out, and I wouldn't have time to get the textures made. Maybe once I finish the texture pack I might look into making PBR materials for them, but the highest priority is to overcome my health issues and finish all the textures, which is a mammoth effort.

Probably not worth the hassle. Will continue to follow your project in the future. I need non shader texture mods for zandronum coop anyway.
