HOOVER1979 UltraHD Texture Pack

UPDATED: The 3rd demo has most of the textures in a file/folder format with the exception to the final Doom overrides, which are still in PK3 files as I couldn't get GZDoom to detect them in any folder I tried. This means there is a huge boost in performance and 99% of the stuttering/freezing present in the second demo is gone. It is highly recommended that you download the 3rd demo and later demos as they are released so as not to have the stutters caused by GZDoom pulling the textures from PK3 files.

This is the second demo release of my work in progress UltraHD Texture pack for Doom, Doom II, Plutonia Experiment and Evilution.

The texture pack is in 5 files. One main file and 4 game-specific override files. this is not only so that all 4 doom games have their own skies and don't all share Doom 2's skies but because some textures in The Plutonia Experiment and Evilution use the same names as some of the Doom/Doom2 textures. for each game, you will need to load both the main file and the override for your game. For example for Doom 1, you would need to load the main file in a batch file and then the doom 1 override afterwards.

"GZDoom.exe HOOVER1979_UltraHD_Texture_Pack_02042018_Main_file.pk3 HOOVER1979_UltraHD_Texture_Pack_02042018_Doom_1_Override.pk3"

This pack is still a long way from completion and all textures presented in this pack are subject to change. I am teaching myself as I go, and as my skills further develop textures that aren't up to scratch with the developed skills will be remade so the utmost attention to detail and overall quality is upheld.

These textures are of a whopping resolution and this pack is designed for GZDoom. This pack will crash Doomsday/Risen 3D at multiple points with memory allocation errors it is due to some textures/skies being larger then the strict requirements the JDoom engine will allow. I plan to make a Doomsday/Risen3D compatible pack when this one is finished. I also plan on making a bright map pack for the GZDoom pack and a smaller 1k texture pack for low-end machines. I have only tested this pack with the 64bit Gzdoom 3.1 The same crash issues may be present with the 32bit version of GZDoom, but I am unsure of that as I haven't tested this on the 32Bit version of GZDOOM. Use this on the 32bit version at your own risk, and don't be surprised if you get crashes.

If you want to use any of these textures in your own project you are welcome as long as the following conditions are adhered too.

1: You must not modify my work
2: You must not claim my work to be your own
3: You must give me credit for my work on your mod's page, in the accompanying readme file and everywhere you advertise your mod this includes linking to my ModDB page and My Deviantart Repository.

Disclaimer:
In the screenshots, I also use the Ketchup v5 blood mod, and in the video, I used both the Ketchup V5 blood mod and the Doom Metal Music mod. these mods are not made by me and all credits go to the authors of those mods. I just made the textures.

At the moment, my PC is in the shop due to TPM issues, which I couldn't resolve myself. Once I get it back, I need to save my pennies (hard to do when on a disability pension, with a TPI diagnosis), so I can not only buy Filter Forge Librarian Perpetual (so all the filters are on my PC, rather than cherry-picking them one-by-one from their website).

Then I need to save up for Ultra Forge. It can do some truly amazing things, one of the many features is AI-assisted upscaling (the artist does some work and AI helps, rather than the AI-only upscaling you see in all the AI upscale texture pack mods). Then I need an ergonomic chair.

Once I have all these things in order, to get back into the swing of things, before resuming work on this mod, I will reach out to developers of remasters of retro games (like NightDive Studios, the developers that released the remaster of Chasm: The Rift, etc), to offer to make a total graphic overhaul that they can put up as free DLC, as I can get the devs to send me all the textures/model skins/sprites.

Although I have never worked on sprites or model skins before, with Ultra Forge, I can upscale sprites, making sure each one is the best it could be. For model skins, I will do the same AI-assisted upscaling with Ultra Forge, but I will make filters in Filter Forge, to add more detail to model skins. One example is to make a seamless cloth weave texture in high-contrast B&W. I can apply that only to the clothing on the model skins of enemies/NPCs, in 3 layers, 3 different transparency levels, and 3 different blend spaces (multiply, overlay, screen), to add fine cloth weave details on the already upscaled skins. I can also make filters in color to apply to other parts of models, like skin, hair, metal, etc.

For textures, I will take the original ones the devs would send me resize them to my insane resolution, and have it as a locked rear layer in Photoshop, so when I make the new texture, it completely fits with the game. If NightDive Studios takes me up on any future graphic overhaul offer, because a lot of their remasters lack texture filtering, having textures/model skins/sprites in the same resolution I make my textures in will do wonders for said games.

Plus, if I get all that done, it would not only get me more well-known, in the industry, but it could even possibly lead to working for a game developer, from home, getting all the software and online training I need. I could get off of the disability pension and be able to afford a lot more, if that was to come to pass.

An update. I was close to resuming work on my texture pack. All I needed to do was get the cash for Filter Forge librarian. My PC is in my lounge room and I use it to watch TV through a USB2.0 HDTV tuner, but the other week a storm hit, and my antenna was directly struck by lightning, which fried my HDTV tuner and sent an almighty surge straight into my PC, via one of the USB ports. Although I was able to get it to reboot, it keeps freezing all the time requiring a hard reset, and, according to Event Viewer the issue is related to my CPU (Ryzen 9 3900x), so my main rig is out of action until I have the cash to get it repaired and if I try making textures on my old laptop it would overheat, or it would kill the CPU.

Another day, another setback. Due to losing one of my external HDD's I have lost ALL of my UltraHD texture pack files. All of my .PSD files are gone, as are all the photographic resources I used in my pack. I have to start from scratch, which means many texture sets I had partially completed have to be completely redone from scratch.

When it rains, it pours.

Thanks for the tip. All I need to do now is save up for Filter Forge Librarian, so I have all the filters on my PC, and I should be able to get back to work.

I also replaced my old mouse with a Logitech G502 X Pro. I could make a new profile in G Hub and configure the extra buttons to macros for Photoshop, to streamline my productivity.

My health has declined significantly. My bladder is severely dehydrated and bleeding. My urologist said it's unethical to keep burning blood vessels off and said I need to drink 4L of water a day or I will eventually bleed to death. I struggle to drink water at the best of times, but 4 BLOODY LITRES?!!! I may not live to 50, so I may not survive to finish this mod.

I am still having serious issues with my PC (which is almost inoperable) and am stuck with a laptop that overheats easily, so I still haven't been able to make any textures. I also need to buy Filter Forge librarian, to use Filter Forge in Photoshop. I have no idea if or when I can resume making textures. This frustrates me deeply.

I hope one day you finish this wonderful project. Every time I play a Doom wad that uses original Doom textures, and your textures override them, it's super nice seeing them! Your work really is incredible! There are seriously no other textures that compare to yours for Doom!

Thanks. I just wish I could have my rig working properly to keep working on it. I am having major issues with my rig and also lost my local filter files for Filter Forge, meaning I have to buy Filter Forge librarian which is in US dollars and the Australian dollar is so weak right now.

I am at my wit's end about my PC and on top of that, I had a severe bladder/kidney infection with one of the most feared bacteria around (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, AKA MRSA). I had to have hospital treatment including heavy pain meds to try to deal with the kidney pain.

I am on the mend now but for the life of me don't know how the hell I got that particular superbug.
