This is the third demo release of my work in progress UltraHD Texture pack for Doom, Doom II, Plutonia Experiment and Evilution. This pack is still a long way from completion and all textures presented in this pack are subject to change. I am teaching myself as I go, and as my skills further develop textures that aren't up to scratch with the developed skills will be remade so the utmost attention to detail and overall quality is upheld.

Description

This release isn't as big as the second demo due to dealing with chronic pain from Fibromyalgia and some serious health hurdles including almost succumbing to blood poisoning in march 2020 from a kidney infection that went septic, so there are a handful of new textures and some older textures have been redone, but the biggest part of this release is the fact I got most of it working through a folder system, except for the overrides for Final doom, they are in PK3 format. This means there is a massive boost in performance as most textures are there to use instead of GZDoom finding them in compressed PK3 files. This kills 99% of the stuttering. I hope you enjoy this update and I hope to get better control of my pain to bring you a much larger 4th Demo. Thanks for all your praise and support people, without you, I woudn't have been able to push myself so far.

Any chance of a pk3 version of the latest version so I can use this on my oculus quest? I have QuestZDoom and the older pk3 versions work, but it's a slight hassle getting folders to work, because thanks to the way the vr port works, batch files are a bitch, if not impossible.

Textures of this size don't play well with GZDoom. When I started with my pack I was utilizing .PK3 files, and there was constant, severe macro stuttering and freezing at the same points, time and time again. In a file/folder structure, there was NO stuttering at all. The caveat is you must use GZDoom 4.3.3 to use the texture pack. I have the same issue with the Heretic PBR mod. However, I couldn't unpack that mod in a file/folder structure as the PBR effects didn't work, their folders need a different name. In a PK3 file the textures are in a folder entitled HIRES, but to have the textures working in a file/folder structure, the folder must be entitled TEXTURES or the textures will not be loaded.

However, you could download the lite pack, rename the TEXTURES folder to HIRES, compress it all into a .ZIP file, and rename the .ZIP file to .PK3 and use something like Winzip to make the .ZIP file.

I can't seem to get the textures to load on the latest drdteam build

Don't use the DRDTeam builds, use the official builds. I just tested the latest GZDoom (4.3.3) and it works fine. Put the WAD files in the GZDoom folder, extract the texture pack into the GZDoom folder and run the batch files from the texture pack.

You can get the latest GZDoom from here: Zdoom.org

Hope this helps.

Download GZDoom from here: Zdoom.org

Download the texture pack.

Download the update patch.

Install GZdoom to a drive and folder of your choice.

Copy your WAD files into the GZdoom folder.

Use the latest version of WinRAR to extract the texture pack in the GZDoom folder.

Use the latest version of WinRAR to extract the patch into your GZDoom folder, and when prompted select "overwrite"

Run the batch files from the texture pack, now in your GZDoom folder.

You can get WinRAR here: Win-rar.com

Hope this helps.

Hello!

Thank you for such a great work!
I have been playing WADs only with your Texture pack for a long time already.

When I used demo 2 pack, I had no problems with opening .pk3 files via ZDL.
In the newest demo 3 there are only .pk3 for TNT and Plutonia.
Can you somehow make one .pk3 file for all textures or even each for the IWADs as it was before, if it is possible, please?

Thank you again, it is really cool!

Hi, thank you for your praise.

I have had issues when if the PK3 file is larger than 2Gb I can't get GZDoom to load the textures, I would have had the whole pack in a textures folder but I can't get GZdoom to pick up the Final Doom overrides in any folder configuration I tried so that's why they are still in PK3's.

At the moment I am resting as I contracted a lung infection and am very unwell. I can't sleep as it feels like there is a knife in my chest, so I am not working on textures, or even playing games, I am just watching movies on my PC until I improve.

Hey this is absolutely fantastic!
I do have one problem though. I cant seem to figure out how to get it to 100% work with Brutal Doom v21. I'm not sure what I'll have to do to make sure all the textures load properly. Is there any way to fix this?

I heard from one of my modding friends (the creator of Diablo3D) that Brutal Doom replaces some textures. Try backing up your Brutal Doom PK3 and opening the original one and delete or rename any folders marked HIRES or TEXTURES and see if that helps. You can open PK3 files with 7zip, Win7z, WinZIP, and WinRAR.

Let me know if that helps.

That's odd. What version of GZDoom are you using? Is it the official build or the DRDteam build? Did you use the latest version of WinRAR to unpack it? You need the official build 4.3.3 or less to use this pack, I have had reports of later builds only picking up the PK3 overrides for Final Doom. When I get out of the hospital I will look into this personally. I may need to repackage it as PK3 files (the main PK3 will be split into 2 PK3's as I found when the PK3 got larger than 2Gb no textures would load. I wish there was more I could do right now but while I am in hospital I have a laptop that overheats too easily (so I can't text GZDoom) and I have a crappy 4G modem with low speeds and very limited data (so I can't repackag the mod and reupload it).

Hey Hoover, is there any chance that these high res texture packs will work with Risen3D?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
hoover1979 Author
hoover1979 - - 327 comments

No. There is at least one texture that exceeds Risen3D's maximum dimensions. As a result, Risen3D will crash when loading any level that has that texture in it. Also to avoid stretched skies on TNE Evilution all the sky textures exceed Risen3D's max so every level of TNT Evilution will crash on Risen3D.

Going to have to give this a shot may have to scale up KuriKai team DHTP and doomenator ALTDHTP and mix it in with it see which of each I prefer more by browsing it. Looks promising though.

ATM version 4.3.3. I haven't been able to find a way to get it to work on later versions as I got hit hard health-wise and am dealing with a kidney infection and a respiratory infection so I am always short of breath and have a ton of fatigue.

Hey! I've extracted the 2gb .rar file in the GZDoom folder, put the DOOM.WAD (The Ultimate Doom v1.9) in the GZDoom folder and put the renderer on Hardware accelerated.

The only thing that has changed, was the shading. The barrels gave of a weird greenish glow on the walls, but the textures were the same as always. Could you please help?

Use GZDoom 4.3.3 or earlier. Later versions of GZDoom only accept .PK3 files (which causes GZDoom to stutter), so you need to download the older build of GZDoom to use my pack.
