The FREMM frigate is the new generation multi-purpose frigate employed by the French and Italian Navy. Featuring a modular design, the French and Italian versions share the same hull design, but with very different sensors and armaments. The French version is shown. The French version of FREMM frigate carries a load of 32 Aster 15 super agile missiles, capable of reaching a range of 30km, at mach 3.5. The missile's large control surfaces combined with thrust vectoring gives it a high degree of agility, combined with the active radar seeker it equips, the missile is a extremely dangerous threat to aerial targets. The ship carries a Herakles multi function radar, with active electronic scanning array antenna. The radar is a potent one, capable of tracking more than 400 targets, vastly greater than 128 of early Aegis system employed by the US navy, at a max range of 250 km. The radar antenna is rotating, however, at a high revolution of 60 rpm, giving it almost equivalent refresh rate to the Aegis system with four fixed panel phased array radars, however at far lower peak power consumption, allowing miniaturization of its carriers. The radar is capable of guiding multiple Aster 15 and Aster 30 missile to intercept incoming threats, eliminating the mechanical fire illuminators employed by the older Aegis system. With the potent radar and missiles, the FREMM ships is capable of defending its local fleet from simultaneous aerial attacks. In addition to anti-air missiles, the FREMM frigate can also carry out anti-submarine missions, with its advanced long range MU90 impact torpedo, with a max range of 23+ km and a shaped charge warhead of 32.7 kg, guided by the state-of-the-art towed array sonar, capable of reaching a max range of 131 km (typically the type of sonar reach only to a max range of 100 km). Land attack capabilities of the ship is also not remitted, as the ship can carry the long range SCALP-Naval cruise missiles, a stealthy missile capable of reaching 1000km.
