Bastion coastal defense system is the premier coastal anti-ship missile system developed and deployed by the Russian Coastal Missile and Artillery Troops. The missile system uses the powerful P-800 Oniks missile, a supersonic, sea-skimming-in-terminal-stage missile, capable of reaching a top speed of mach 2.5, carrying a warhead of 250 kg and with a range of 300 km. The missile also carries a self-defense electronic decoy system, capable of projecting a radar image in front of the missile, acting as a bait for enemy radar based air-defense systems. For the enemy ships attempting to defend against the P-800 missile, the missile's high speed, low trajectory in terminal phase, and electronic self-defense systems would present serious threats to the ship. The heavy warhead carried by the missile, combined with its heavy weight (~3000 kg at launch), give it a devastating effect: if hit, a single missile can disable or sink a destroyer sized vessel.
